The previous owner of my TT owned the car for 3 days. He payed 7 grand for it. On day one he fitted an electronic boost controller, setting the boost to 16 PSI with nothing but a cheap pod and straight through cat-back. Then he went out street racing. Yeah, you can guess what happened at the end of those three days. Sold it on a trailer for $1400.

    What've you got?

I tried teaching a good "blonde" friend :p of mine how to drive manual...ended up flooding the engine but too bad lol but it stuffed up a few things and ended up costing me just under half a grand to fix and replace...atleast the zed gets more new parts lol

Lesson - dont try to impress chicks with your zed especially if they are blonde lol

    Another one :)

Had a rear main seal leak so i decided to go to the local "trustworthy" repco service centre (big mistake!!!)....i provided the rear main seal...they charged me $850 for labour as i had provided the seal...

3 weeks later the rear main started leaking again!!! Took it back to them and asked them "politely" why this has happened...they said that they will have a look and do the job if it was their mistake...2 days later i get a call saying that the rear main seal i had provided was the wrong one...they claimed to have called up Nissan and was told that there were 8 different types of rear main seals for the zed especially because mine being an import...

So me having not much knowledge about zeds at the time figured they were right and told them to replace the seal again at my cost...another $850 paid to them in less than a month!!!

Just over 6 months later the rear main seal starts leaking again!!! I went back to them with my receipt and again "politely" asked them why this keeps happening and what their reason could be "this" time!!! They told me that they had done the job properly and could have been something i could have done or something faulty in my car...

They said if i wanted them to have a check they would charge me and if they find that it is something else they would charge me yet again to put it all back without fixing anything!!! They said it could be the gearbox or some crap like that!!! At the time i wasnt part of the forum and didnt know anybody with a zed...so i was like get stuffed as im not wasting any more money to get stupid idiots fix my car when it isnt even fixed!!!

Lesson - dont go to any local mechanic that is not known to work on zeds especially Repco (Ripping Every Poor C**t Off!!!)

Since then im grateful to have met Bryan and he and him only had touched my zed for work done to it and so worth the drive :)

Went in to get a compression test ended up paying $500 for water bypass and the engine was going to be replaced anyway. Also, how do you flood a car with injectors?

The first owner (I think) of the car died of cancer whilst in possesion of the car, car sat around for awhile possibly met with an accident or 2 while in limbo, next owner bought it and had for a short period of time (< 1month as I recall) then sold it on for unknown reasons. Next owner had insanely bad luck with the car - dropped cylinders on the drive from Sydney to Canberra and the owner spent thousands trying find the issues and rectify them - never ended up getting it 100% as his gf fell pregnant and he sold it at a significant loss to me.

When I bought it I had a mechanic in Canberra pretty much get it back to full working condition, I then left it at his workshop for a month to let him install some mods id bought from coz while I went to Perth for a holiday.... never happened as he sadly commited suicide :(

Since then I managed to complete all the mods that I wanted... although some of my friends who have driven the zed reckon they wouldnt touch as it was apparently "trying to kill them". Dunno if thats just their driving or them being idiots in my car (as I was on holidays when I left it with a couple of mates)

Either way.... I think I've got Devil Z reincarnated

my first car was (and still is) a zed
2 months after getting it 5th cylinder would randomly misfire, had no idea what the problem was so took it to local mechanic(big friggen mistake)
changed all coilpacks spark plugs and injector connectors, and add on labour, cost me just over 1200 problem wasnt fixed :(
told him to get stuffed, found a bloke on here whos was awesome enough to help me, turned out ptu connectors were gone, 60 bucks and a new s2 ptu later, problem gone and hasnt come back since :)
wasnt a good start to owning the car though lol :p

Bought my first car, an N/A 1990 slicktop in august last year. The previous owner slathered it in pearl orange and (very roughly) installed a veilside kit and carnage bonnet.

I picked in up from Brisbane and drove it to Dubbo without a problem. Upon arrival it began billowing smoke from under the bonnet and firing on two (2) cylinders. A full check over found a faulty ignition modual and seized A/C compressor which burnt out the belt.

I was also given two (2) A4 pages worth of problems with the car that were at varying levels of expense and urgency. $5k worth of labour and parts, $1.5k in correcting defects and another $5k on the exterior got me where I am now :)

Sounds like what im gonna be going through :p

Bought my first 300zx N/A 1991 about a month ago which also had a tonne of areas re-painted done by the bloke before with a can... Had a kit on it not veilside thankfully :p

I got it from Gympie but unlike you i only managed to get half way home before breaking down in the middle of the highway  Eventually i got a Tow after signing up to RACQ with no choice but it got me home :)

I finally got it to the mechanics and recently spent $5k worth of labour and parts for to only end up getting the car towed back to the mechanics 2 days after picking it up  Happy i had RACQ this time :D

And i am now in for about another 1k Im guessing and thats before i get the other gearbox i have in ;( and Repainted (ill be broke so me and my mates gonna give it a go haha, whats the worst that could happen... :p)

For some reason i still like the car even after all the headaches and bills its given me :zlove:

My horror story was only yesterday. After seven years of ownership of my 89 na I felt like a change. The na has done just over 200000kms, has always been maintained, never let me down and presents very, very well for a 22yo car. Good tyres, 3 months rego, timing belt done at 167000kms and service history going way back.

So what do you suppose a dealer offered me as a trade on a $18,000 dollar car?

"we could probabally get you a grand for that".

Thats pretty gay, last year I was curious as to how much my '90 NA would go for a trade in - and got a $4k offer (bought it for 5 in '09). Obviously I ended up selling it privately - managed to get $6k too:zlove:

Funnily enough its always been nice to me...

Don't ever trade your vehicles in, the amount they give you vs markup is absolutley ridiculous, I see it everyday and I shake my head.

OMG, my horror story with my Zed.. it almost killes me to recall. It still haunts me to the very minute.
I paid a princely sum for the car.... No I didnt, I paid peanuts actually! Had some minor issues already but i sorted them out.

Main issue is........My seat bolster has a hole in it............... Apart from that it runs like clockwork! Only thing its cost me is what Ive added. Ive not had to repair anything since i bought it!

Bought my Z back in about April... Bought it home and apparently I had to get a blue slip for it before I could get it registered in NSW. The old man took it into the mechanics and they told him to drive it onto the hoist. Doing so, they had it at the wrong height and it snapped the bumper clean in half. Got it repaired for $250 or so, a week later the old man was driving it and due to the fact that he wasn't used to driving a car with such a long nose, managed to crack it again. Went and got that fixed up for around $150. Three days later, (yup you guessed it) the old man went and did the same thing and I haven't bothered repairing it ever since then. We now reverse park into everything just to be safe...

Anyhow, now that the front bumper saga is over we best start with the other. After not driving the Z for a week or so, I started her up one day and something was definately wrong. Loss of power, sounded different. Assumed it wasn't firing on all 6? Booked it into the mechanics for them to inform me that it was a coil pack and the sparkies. I told them to go ahead with the work ($400 later)... I then received a phonecall back a few days later to inform me that it wasn't the coils/sparkies that was causing the problem, it was actually one of the injectors that was F***ed. They quoted me $375 for a new injector and $175 for a service on the other 5+$600 labour for the job. Upon hearing that I decided to pull it out of the mechanics and explore another option.

After about a week of doing so, I was kindly assisted by Mitch who came down and did a few tests to verify that it actually was the injector. To cut an even longer story short, I had Mitch do the work for me, had the opportunity to learn a shitload more about my Z, replaced all 6 injectors instead of just 1 and had someone who knew what they were doing work on my Z. All of that, cost me a mere $50 extra then what the mechanic quoted.
