    Hi all

Dropped my Honda HRV off to the local garage early this week for it's Vehicle inspection in readiness for Transfering NSW to Tas rego.

Happened to spot a 300ZX in for some work with the mechanic scratching his head... 300zx would not start at all... I pointed out that the S1-PTU were usually to blame and just happened to have a spare at home. so I ducked off home grabbed my spare S1 PTU for the mechanic (The mechanic is a top bloke and I'm always happy to help out a Z owner..).

They installed my 'spare' S1 PTU and hey presto... 300ZX fired up.

Dropped by the mechanic today to see how my spare S1 PTU was going... mechanic asked if the 300ZX owner could use it until a new S2-PTU with piggy back for S1 wiring came in... of course I agreed anything to help out a Z owner.

I asked how much the S2-PTU with adpator was and the mechanic said he ordered it from Local Nissan dealer...and cost... wait for it...... $748 dollars....

    That's one expensive 'fix'

The moral of this story is, never buy from Nissan Australia!

Tell the mechanic the piggy-back harness is prone to cause issues too. Best to solder it into the loom.

Did you leave an invoice to the customer? Or did the garage make money on you.

Not to mention spare CAS and AFM. :)

Have not seen the owner yet however, i'm taking my Honda HRV in mid next week to get the Vehicle inspection signed off so I'll inquire then.

If I see the owner I'll flag them down and mention the crazy price. They can get a piggy back Series 2 PTU from Z1 for $215 US delivered in 5 days

He currently has my series 1 running his car

I guess if he is willing to pay a garage to order a part from Nissan and not research it himself he must be willing to pay what ever is quoted?

Surely, he needs to do some work to lessen his cost or else accept that others will charge him what they want??

I agree except the more homework he does he will want to sepnd more:rofl::br:

  7. Interesting. The PTU issue was actually a factory recall here in the US. You rarely see S1 PTUs as most have been factory swapped with a Nissan sticker verifying the work.

Hit up the Wanted section and you're bound to find someone with a spare or selling a S2 PTU and harness. Usually for no more than $200 AUD. Bought mine from zx299 for $116 with harness and $3 postage.

That's true. The S1 PTU was a factory recall and swapped for the Series 2 everywhere in the World - except here. I guess Nissan Australia was just too mean.

Yes, that's right, maybe it was only the export market. UK, Europe and USA for sure.
