hi guys help will be appreciated,

last week i noticed a squealing noise from behind the timming cover.

a few days later i noticed a funny smell whilst driving got out to have a look and have found the drivers side exhuast smoking (not large amount but i can see it) I bent down and also noticed a squealing noise coming from the rear.

i thought it might have been oil burning as cheap repco oil was put in 2000km ago, i have done an oil/filter change and driven the car about 30 km but nothing has changed, i can still hear the noise from behind the timing cover but no where near as much as i could when i first noticed it.

If it's just after initial start up then goes away it could be valve stem seals; they'd be getting pretty hard after 20 years.

Well, my immediate concern with this is, squealing noise from behind the timing covers...are you sure it wasn't drive belts on a cold morning? If it's in the timing path, then squealing would be a gripping idler bearing. You don't want these to fail.

nah its all over the place last night i drove it was fine for 10 km then started for a few minutes have just gone to start it again and it started smoking immediatly .

it is also having a little turning over issues as well
when it has been sitting there for a day i get a bit of battery clicking nosie then starts let it run for a minute and starts again not a problem

i am not sure if all these symptoms are steming from the one problem or if its a few different probs but all have started last week

the squealing noise behind the timing cover was the first to appear i had driven the car for an hour around 3pm i then installed 2 speakers in the boot and started the car i noticed the noise then the motor was still warm it was really loud at the time and with increasing the revs the noise got louder.

so i took took the timing cover off at the top to have a little peak and all looked fine to me belt was tight i put it all back together and started it up and the noise had gone at idle but was still there when i increased the revs but no where near as loud is still present but i can barely hear it

there seems to be a hole here (yellow arrow) something is dripping from it but no smoke at all !! the smoke is only coming from my exhaust tip .

i put my hand over the right tip and seems to be alot less pressure than the left one

if their is moisture coming out u may want to check ur head gasket.

some mufflers have holes @ the bottom where you indicate. Cold starts will produce moisture dripping from this. It a safeguard that rids water from otherwise sitting in muffler & rusting it. Just check if hole appears to be drilled purposely or if it is an irregular rust hole?

Concerning the smoke, is performance down at all?

Funny the subject of belts coming up. The belt that joins crank to P/Steer pump is very tight. Can anyone tell me if this is normal for Zeds? Sorry about slight hijack OP but thought it would save another post.......

head gasket seems to look fine .

will check that hole out, but performance is fine and has not changed at all.
