    Hi!

I dropped my girlfriends 300 in for a road worthy yesterday as we have moved interstate and need to change the rego but when i went back to pick it up the guy had a few issues with it.
Nothing major but when he said its supposed to have a compliance plate and he cant road worthy it with out one i was kind of shocked and dont know what to do about it.

Shes owned and driven this car for 5 years and its still licenced with Western Australian Plates and has the Vin number stamped on the drivers shock tower .

To throw another spanner in the works he mentioned i might have to take it somewhere to get an import plate fitted which has confused me more as we didn't import it and its already licenced in Australia???

    Help!!

It sounds like the car was Australian delivered, and the mechanic is a bit confused - He has probably only ever seen zeds that were 'grey imports' (imported privately and not bought through Nisan Australia).

If it is in fact an Australian delivered car, it doesn't need an import plate.

Stick some photos up and it will be obvious to members if it was an australian delivered car, especially a phot from the rear.

Keep it rego'd in WA for as long as possible. Rego is cheap, and no RWC hassles.

    15 yr imports don't have a plate....

It was obviously imported under the 15yr rule. 15yr zeds had to be complied before registration but they were never required to have a compliance or import plate fitted.

    Thanks for the replies Guys..
I dont have the internet at home and have to park outside maccas to check this :)
The cars was imported by leederville motors and had to be licenced in Aus by them before she bought it.
I'll mention the 15yr rule to the mechanic and see what he says

Rollin- Can you tel me what you had to go through to get it sorted.
    Thanks

    I had the same issue

I bought the car off member Oni in NSW bought it up to QLD and it requires it to be re-registered.

Needs to have a compliance plate regardless of the fact it was imported under the 15 yr rule.

I found a dody car compliance dude and a dody roadworthy dude on the southside.

Cost me $1500 to get a compliance plate fitted as I needed a whole heap of things fixed to get the compliance (side intrusion bars, seat belts replaced and a few other things).

WTF? This all sounds crazy  The TT Zed I recently purchased is registered in VIC. Has an "import compliance plate" fitted on the right shock tower. The original VIN # is on the firewall & above this, is the import VIN # riveted to firewall.

The import compliance plate on the tower states the car is a 1998 (obviously when car was imported & complianced) & also states original build date of 1989.

Hope I don't have hassles later if I move to QLD? Could someone explain more the 15yr rule? I would have thought all imports need to be complianced regardless of the state they originally come to. Besides, mine was imported in 98' so would only have been 9 yrs old back then. Does the rule mean if the car is older than 15yrs it doesn't need one? ..........

No, you'll be fine. Yours wasn't imported under the 15 year rule.

There is two ways of importing cars.

Easiest way was the 15 year rule. Once a car was 15 years old it was a lot easier to get it complianced, just have to put in side intrusion bars, new seatbelts and tyres and that was it. It was quite lax and plenty of crap got through. The rules have changed now.

With the low volume SEVS import rules you needed a shop that had import approval for a specific type of car. They would do a crash test on the car and a heap of other crap to make sure it complied with all the ADR's etc. This is what yours was imported under.

Yeah, says on the compliance plate 'low volume'. Tar for that! Hope the OP gets this sorted with his car too.........

Thanks Rollin for putting a positive spin on this. Still looking for a place that knows the rules up here.
been to three places and all they say is if it hasn't have a plate then its a fail .
Going to go into Queensland Transport tomorrow and see what they have to say.

Sexzx, After speaking with Rollin im way more confident. We Test drove the car with dealer plates as it hadn't been licenced in Aus yet. then it had a road worthy, side intrusion bars fitted and a new 17 digit vin number was stamped into the drivers side shocktower for compliance.

    Cheers

Thought i would update this thread with my progress to date..
I went down to the local Queensland transport office and spoke to a helpful lady who wasn't sure , so she called the brisbane office and they said the car dosnt need a compliance for the road worthy as i ha ve the W.A. rego papers and the inspector can call them if hes not sure.
Then when we go to licence it i just have to fill out a declaration they gave me saying it has no plate. :)

Just go somewhere else, some inspectors are knobs who don't know what they're talking about...

Had this exact same problem when I brought my skyline up from Melbourne to QLD. All I had to do was get Australian approved seat belts installed all round and anchor points put in for baby seats in the rear. Engineer approved it and installed mod plate. All was good then. This was done in Brisbane. 1000 all up cost was.
