Hi guys new member here Robbi and just bought a silver 89 Z32 TT auto advertised on here. Love it.
Drove back home :br:from brissy to sunshine coast on sat and on sunday took it to a carwash depot to degrease the engine bay.
SO, now after reading alot of posts I feel pretty stupid.
Degreased the engine then sprayed with high pressure washer.
Car started fine and I drove it home for about ten minutes then parked it.
This morning go out to start and no start.
Turns over fine, plenty of spin on the starter but no start and last night was starting first hit on the key every time.
So, I understand basic electrics, I have owned 27 cars , built two modified turbo rotaries, had 1GGTE supra I converted to single turbo,
but man, this thing has a long list of checks to go through.:(
So have read tech section tonight and have not done the paper clip in the plug or checked codes yet.
Thinking of just pulling PTU, CAS, injector, etc etc plugs and spraying with WD40 then leaving for another night and try again..
Any suggestions? Cant believe it, I hope I havent shorted anything
(engine was off when being sprayed and started immediately after wash.)

I reckon water has settled overnite.. off to check fuses now

Who is the closest Z expert to Warana Sunny Coast?
Dont want to send it to a generic mechanic if I can help it

I wouldn't spray them with anything, just disconnect them and make sure theres no water in the connectors one by one. Starting with the CAS, crank angle sensor on the front of the engine. I'd never spray an engine with a hose. The paper clip thing is also a good start and easy to do.

Clean and dry all injector/coilpack/cas/put etc connectors. Tension all the pins while you are doing it.

Check all the fuses. Report back.

degrease and gerni mine constantly, however, have replaced every connector and know that all seals are replaced.

Air compressor with a blower attachment.

    Most likely culprits will be:-
    1. CAS connector- Alloy cylinder in front passenger side of motor)
    2. Spark barrels- Disconnect coilpacks and pull them out. Inspect the barrel down to the spark plugs. They are supposed to be sealed, but can fail, allowing moisture/water down, causing the coilpack to ark out against the side wall. Give the coilpacks a hit with compressed air at the same time. Make sure you dont however lose the spring loaded carbon tip from within the end of the coilpack.
3- PTU- Front driver side of motor. As per CAS connector, unplug, give a good blow out, clean, re-tension if necessary and apply electrolytic grease before reconnecting.

Don't use a high pressure washer in future, zed's hate them.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

There can be a chance you got water weap in the actual CAS unit. In this case, you may have to resort to pulling it out and leaving in direct sunlight for a day then refit. (this happened to me one time when i went a little crazy with detailing my engine bay).

p.s. make sure you mark exactly where your CAS is set at for your timing before removal.

maybe check all those MAP sensors and little vacuum pipes leading to the sensors and engine....

Okay so I took the coils out . 4 of the spark plug chambers were full of fluid. Removed the fluid with a straw and then cleaned out with rags and refitted coils. Pulled off ptu plug and cleaned it . Pulled off cas plug and cleaned it . Tps plug off and cleaned as well as temp sender plugs . Checked fuse boxes and no blown fuses . Half tank of fuel and still won't start. Gutted. This thing was running on Sunday nite and I have stuffed it with an engine clean :( any suggestions? Anyone want to sell a working ptu?

So it started tonight, I charged the battery overnight and also pulled out the coils and dried out the muck in the sparkplug chambers. Today was warmer weather so that must have helped as well . It started and I let it warm up and then tried to take it for a drive where it then stalled intermittently and generally was a pain in the ass to get back home. Definitely PTU symptoms from reading on the forums. So this weekend I will pull the ptu off and check the plugs each end. I have a dremel / rotary tool but no soldering iron , so I may try the S1 PTU fix. I have ordered a series 2 PTU with harness adaptors from http://www.conceptzperformance.com/..._Type=NIS300&UID=20110421064810123.211.84.198 for $167 US. hopefully it wont take too long to get here :) thanks for all the help so far esp Baron who was quick to contact to help :)

Hey man the CAS sensor itself may be rooted...i had similar problems to you...did an engine degrease on my old NA engine and then hosed it down....car started cutting out intermitently for ages then one day didn't start...turned out the CAS sensor had corroded badly and was shot...
