Hey guys recently my car has been hesitating really badly, running extremely rich and had the engine check light on constantly. I was told this is the ECU "failsafe mode".

Heres my problem, i've found that the problem is wire #59 on the ecu plug is slightly loose and i can pretty much cause and fix the problem with playing around with that wire. Would i have to replace the whole plug to fix this issue for good? or is there a way to tighten up that loose wire? sorry for being a n00b :p

Find out if the wire is being pushed out by the ECU pin... you might need to re-seat the female side of the wire (on the blue ECU 'plug'). Alternatively, just push it on to the ECU (male) pin with a pair of tweezers until it seats properly. Probably disconnect the battery first. Dont want a zap or a short to the ECU...

If the break is in the wire itself, then its a cut and solder job. Not too hard to do.

Now this problem is starting to piss me off, happened about 7 times today. Anybody good with ECU's able to come have a quick look at my zed?(western sydney) I was told it was more likely the pins inside the plug than the actual wires themselves but i wouldn't know as i'm not too good with the electrical side of things.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

Have you tried what Mitch suggested first? You should be able to get yourself out of trouble if you take your time and have a thorough look over it and poke around in there a bit...

I have tried re-seating the wire, however the problem re-occurs after about a week or so.

you may need to replace the female part of the pin.

    its AMP manufactured plug.

Check RS components or Farnell (Element 14 or whatever its called now) to get a new pin socket and replace it. i used to replace them on regular basis at my previous work and on my cars.

    may need special crimp tools.

other option is u may have a dry joint or cracked solder on the ECU on that pin. unlikely but possible.

other than that u may have a break in the wire itself near the pin.

usually they look ok visually but the break forms between the wire and where the insulator gets crimped onto the female pin.cant's see it but it will feel very flimsy and flexible. seen that happen lots of times in ET pulsars and Exas changed few too.

Pitty i'm in SA so cant help you physically.

If you have a look at the pin, there is a tab on it that prevents (or sould prevent) it from being pushed through.

Basically you use a tiny jewellers screwdriver to push the tab down, and that allows you to pull the little pin/socket out.

Then you just lift the tab a little and push the pin/socket back in. It should now stay in the hole when you connect the plug back up.

I tried to find some pictures for you.

First attempt - nearly what you will find...

    Not exactly, but pretty close...
