Just want to know what type of glue people have used to stick the lifting dash down as shown in the tech section. I know it says an epoxy but i looked at bunnings and all they have is arildite??? I think it would be too runny to stay in place as it takes so long to dry....any suggestions???? I know i'll only get one go at it so i'd like to get it right. Would something like sikaflex 227 be ok?
I was going to mention Sikaflex as a joke haha, but it's way too messy in my opinion for the interior, let alone some things at times.. but it's the risk you take, it holds extremely well. I just don't like it I remember buying some form of heat resistant epoxy from Bunnings, it worked well & never lifted again. Mini clamps are the sh*t when holding it all together rather than a dash-out job. Here is a link anyhow.
I used black sikaflex on my dash too, its been a whole month and still looks good . It was messy but nothing you can't cut off with a Stanley knife
Yep, Sikaflex for the win! Sure it's messy stuff(but this is a Z32, and you will be extremely careful, won't you)? No alternative to using thin wooden battens(or even steel engineers rulers)with as many mini clamps as you can get hold of. Mine has been perfect since fixing it in 2003.:zlove::zlove:
Lol, compared to me using tarzans grip and a plank of wood and tennis balls, it looked ok for about a week.
And the best way to clamp it down is (this is not a joke btw lol) ...with tennis balls. Get the glue (or sikaflex) under the lifted dash, and wedge a heap of tennis balls between the windscreen and lifted dash. It should hold it tight enough to dry and hold its place.
tennis balls are good as long as you put a long flat piece of something along the dash first otherwise you have un even glue points. i used a 2 part epoxy but you can buy self mixing 2 part in syringe and it is a lot less messy.stick your glue in put your timber slat down and wedge 270mm paint rollers between the dash and the windscreen.this also works a treat.
Thanks guys....i'm glad i bought a tube of 227 today....i should have time to have a go at it tomorrow. The dog won't be happy when i take his balls but
I can see how it could be confusing, after all, they are both round and furry. I'm not sure how you would stop the dog from chewing the dash.:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Done Well i did it today and i'm pretty happy with it. Used Sikaflex 227 and a noodle.... Maybe i should add to that... Tried the dogs balls before the glue was pulled out and just couldn't get them to stay put. I thought that if i had rubber balls they might stick to the windscreen rather than just slipping off. So off i go to Crazy Clarks or whatever it was. No rubber balls i could see but i saw a noodle.....you know the foam tube things for the pool.....perfect. Got home cut it to length, no timber required just roll it under the screen and stayed in place no worries.
When I did mine I used shelleys urethane bond and left it clamped for about 3 days just to be sure. God knows how Nissan stuffed up manufacturing that part of the zed but I suppose its better than stuffing up something more critical/expensive.
Did my TT one this weekend. Sikaflex 227, a slim wooden batten and 3 paint rollers. Good as the NA - can't tell the difference. Oh and Isopropyl Alcohol to get the mess off the windscreen when I had finished. Also, I used a plastic tool, not a screwdriver to get the vents out. Go to the shadecloth fixings section of Bunnings and get a V Grip tool (or whatever it's called). It's like a spatula but stronger and was perfect.
