You guys are world famous http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/general/view/2411154/Funny-story-in-AUS-forums.html
my god they have no sense of humor, ok you boys may have had an accident but hell I do not believe any person who has spent any real time working on cars and Z's especially has not had a bad run at some stage, as pointed out earlier in the brotherhood of "Oh shit". And seeing as I am going to make a claim such as this I shall add my induction to said brotherhood. U11 bluebird pooped the clutch (200 + kms on the clock what do we expect) so a simple clutch replacement became an al lout rebuild 296 duration cam HD pressureplate high compression engine Lightened flywheel blah blah blah. so after a few weeks of no car I had all my parts back and was working at 1 am in the morning we are just bolting the last bits together and my lovely wife to be walks out picks up a new shiny thrust bearing and says "Whats this?" for some reason I had a 20oz hammer in my hand (the job was not going smoothly at that point) which went flying across my engine bay hit my dizzy and busted my rare as hens teeth dizzy cap (8 plug 4 cylinder CA18)
Friends MK2 Escort, 12 years ago. His GF at the time was studying at Toowoomba University, staying at the campus accommodation. Past weekly visits had the campus officer bring to our attention that "vehicles are not to be repaired on campus grounds". So, when the clutch failed, locking the car in 2nd gear, which barely made it to the village, we had to go "stealth". Smuggled tools and engine hoist in the boot of my 260Z 2+2. Organised with the villa next door to store the car in their garage once we pulled the motor (our first ever attempt) in his GF's garage. Room was limited, and timing was vital. Plan was to pull motor and box as 1, open garage door, transfer car to neighbours garage, replace clutch, bring car back and refit. *First error- tailshalf yoke is the only thing stopping a gearbox from draining when you angle the box. Sub note- concrete floors arent sealed in the villas, nor is the red stencilcrete driveways. *Second error- Jacked until we had enough lift to clear the radiator support, attempted to roll hoist back a bit. Wouldnt budge. Pushed harder..... still no go Looked all through engine bay for something still holding it in..... nothing....... scratching heads..... looked to god for answer..... see we'd put the hoist through the gyprock ceiling. Managed first pull, clutch replace and refit in 2 days never allowed to park our cars in student village again
Thats gold Jerry! Gold! I read that and imagined every moment of it. LMFAO. And agreed, we've all got stories. So we may as well share them.
Meh, it just says a lot about their community. As stated before, we have all had our share of "Ohhshttness", it's just that Gargs and I (and plenty of others on here by the looks) are not afraid to show it in vivid detail!
Excellent stories guys. We as Aussie don't mind at all about taking the piss out of ourselves. And we have a go. I've been to the states many many times and understand how they see things so the responce is no suprise. They have been told they live in the greatest country on the planet so many times they believe it. Seriously, for the 1st time this thread, I feel sorry for them. The Bush administration done a good job of installing fear into their people too. I could go on but out of respect I'll shut up about them now. Except for- come on down and see for yourselves how we live in comparision. Anyhow, it's our Aussie peers we're worried about and your responce and stories have been fantastic. You guys make me proud to be a part of a very special community. Enigma and I thought long and hard how to make something not only informative, but easy to read too. Humor is a powerful tool and should be used more often, copy that USA? We also knew the wealth of info here and wanted to entice a responce in the form of helpfulness, which was an impressive success. The thread is full of solutions, not by the idiots of course, but by experienced folk on here sharing their knowledge. The idiots THANKYOU.
These are GREAT! For future though use some Torque Specs! Here... http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/...=0&cycle=off&slide=25&design=default&total=25
