I've been on cruises with other groups and the best idea I came across was AusZcar where most of the guys had hand held CB radios they just tuned to Chanel 16 and we found with a 5 watt radio drop outs were very rare even on the GOR, this might be an alternative for someone who wants to stay in contact, get directions, findout where stop points are Etc, Prices on these vary on ebay but we found the 5w unit is essential to maintain good contact.

In relation to another trip down the GOR and as a way of having it a little different from the Main Run what about doing a Sat / Sun, Run leave Mid A/Noon Saturday Meal and stay the night at Lorne then Sunday cruise to Port Cambell, Lunch, and head back to Melbourne.
Not trying to tell you guys how to do things just offering up a suggestion.

we have been doing the GOR run for some time now ,, its one of those things i believe we should not change ,, the gor run is the gor run.

other drive days can be organized any time someone wishes to organize one.
i love my gor run and the once a year thing.

i do think that more of us should get radios tho.

we have so many nice road here that we as a forum don't really use, i think ideas should be more focused on that ( new roads and places )

the guys do a great job for the gor..

    Hi BADXTC
My comments were in response to Kingys post which i have in part quoted below. The idea of an O/Night Run is just to add another element and make it a totally different run, I agree we do have other great roads in Victoria but not a lot that offer the driving experience of the GOR, one of the best driving roads in the world imho so why not use it more than once a year, even if varied routes are chosen. Cheers Dave

    BADZX (Kingy),

Forgot to ask: What's the suspension setup in your Zed? That thing stuck to the road and we (Richard, my mate in the passenger seat) didn't notice any body roll at all.

I tried to stay with you on the leg to Port Campbell. Flashed you a few times and slowed as we were losing the car behind me. You kept hammering so I said f#ck it, I'll hit the go button. BUT... you'd already gone.

The times that I was behind you, there was no movement when you were cornering at all! You'd lose me after about 4 corners! You must really know those roads too. :br:

When we reached Port Campbell, we were curious so we timed the next car in after us. 1 minute 47 seconds. At (conservatively) an average speed of 80km/h that's a 2.4km gap!!!

Coilovers? Adjustable shocks and springs? What's it like as a daily drive? I'm looking to replace mine next year so I'm checking out a few options.

Sorry it has taken me so long to post up photos, Ive just got back into working after holidays and I haven't had any time to post up a thread.

I would like to first thank Kingy and Col for organising another awesome cruise. Its been like 10 months since my last Z event and I loved every minute of this one. I definitely will be there next year its the biggest cruise for the Vic Z crew.

    Now onto the photos.

Arrived at the Servo about 7:25am in the morning to find ROYSZX waiting in the parking lot. but after about 20 mins everyone started turning up and the weather went from cold and windy to wet wet wet.

Cruising down the Princess FWY to Avalon BP Servo to meet up with Kingy. At BP I everyone got a chance to meet Dean (bRACKET) the new owner of a 97 JDM model Z32 and it was beautiful. I was surprise to find out the differences in the 97 model engine bay.

This year Kingy took us up to Mt Leura first which was interesting to see the whole group parked on top of the summit of the mountain. All you could see were Zs and it was a awesome sight to see.

Martin again working on his car. Still it was great to see him there. He said he had been up all night getting this new car ready for the cruise. Now thats Z dedication. Good work mate.

I took some shots while we were cruising through the twisty GOR road but I as you can imagine I was more concerned about concentrating on the road.

Unfortunately, along the GOR we came across some road works and As one lane was block traffic lights were setup to allow passage between the road work section. and guess who was the one car behind the leaders to miss the light. ME, I was now leading everyone and I didn't know we were stopping in Lorne. And When we got to Lorne I could see a single Z so I keep going:(. It wasn't until we made it to Anglesea did i notice the Z behind me flashing his light. I waited with the 3 cars who stayed with me for the main group to reach us but by the time we saw everyone they were all heading home so after the last of the Zs came past I decided to head off home exhausted but very happy to finally be cruising in my Z again.

    BigCol That's what she said...

That might be an option. We trialled the 0.5 watt hand held units a few years ago, but they were awful. Actually worse than using a mobile phone in bad reception areas. But maybe higher power units would be worth some investigation...

A couple of the Guys had 1 & 2 watt units and said they could hear everyone but it was scratchy and they couldn't transmit at all, until the open sections of road. Several had 5 watt units and all of them whether at the front or back of the cruise reported very good reception / transmission.

I think your car looked great from a distance though looks low and tough in my opinion.

Wise man once said to me.......

"no point having 500 HP if you can only put 250hp to the ground"

Simple old saying and one I've stuck with ever since.

    front:
Std nissan front struts but with KING SPRINGS fitted (custom roll)
    Lowered 45mm
Unknown brand swaybar (much thicker than any others I've ever seen)
    NISMO adjustable shocks
Camber & castor left as standard

    rear:
Std nissan rear struts but with KING SPRINGS fitted (custom roll)
    Lowered 25mm
    Unknown brand swaybar
    NISMO adjustable shocks
adjustable rear top arms (ebay) camber reduced so the wheel sits more verticle

Perhaps the biggest improvement came with the wheel offset, I run an offset of +46 on the front with a 12mm spacer, 75mm wheel studs, & a hub shoulder ring.
+ 44 offset on the rear.

& good quality tires ..... a simple package that works.

    Ride comfort.......

Its a long day in the "office" when I do a big run in it, especially on rough roads. I have used it as a daily driver for about 6months but much perfer the easy ride of the wifes 4 seater these days

If you think the zed handles....... maybe I should take the corolla next year ;)
    corolla / gokart ...... same thing :D

Great pics ADAMZX! I forgot my camera so thanks to you, Big Col and Jedi for posting up lots of great shots.

We left early from Lorne and saw your 3 cars further up the road! I didn't realise you missed the stop off at Lorne. I just thought you were afraid of all the schoolies girls hanging around the beach :D

You took a few good shots on the hill and at the various meeting points. I don't think you missed anybody's Zed in your photos.

    Cheers.

I organised a run of 150+ cars along the GOR 4 years ago, it was a strict requirement to have a UHF radio in every car, the radio was purely for driving directions and comunication with various "group leaders", unfortunately chitchat and general bullsh1t made it useless after the first hour, even getting the message out to drop up/down a channel if you wanted to havachat was imposiable.
I went back to the phone instead and turned off the radio.

I'm not saying it wont work with a small group (40 cars ????), but then we are relying on EVERONE having a 2way..... & a 2way thats the same .... UHF or CB

UHF works well along the actual coast but fails in the hilly inland section
CB works really well through the hills, but lacks the range along the coast

    buy 1 of each ???????

    NextG works everywhere :D

Yeah, very good points, we only had 15 guys and 2 - 3 didn't have radios, so the chit chat although still plentifull was manageable and could be interupted for any announcements. But of course as the numbers increase so do these types of issues. NextG it is then.

Some figures for anyone interested.....8am sunday to midday monday.....
442 kms and used 53 Lts.......is that good or average??

NA or TT and how hard were you driving it?
I was on 350km from half a tank (before we hit the twisty roads on the return half of the GOR), ended up getting 640km from 60L, my car is NA though.

TT 2+2 auto....(burgandy) Can't seem to upload pics yet.
On most of the twisty roads I drove moderately hard (by my standard). On one last leg of the GOR I was trying not to slow down the car behind which was similar to yours:).... as a few others including a bright yellow one seemed to keep disapearing in to the distance. A great learning experience and fun too.
I guess the TT and auto factors might explain the big difference between our fuel economies? With 7 Lts left in the tank I would probably be able to get 500 kms, definitly not 600 though.

    I agree

Col, your quote above is good in theory but as you know it did not happen on last year GOR when the last 6 cars were left with no one knowing the directions to take including yourself. Resulting in finally arriving at the fly 90 mins late via Apollo Bay and return.:rolleyes:
