Do you get tailgated in your 300zx?

Right. I have owned my 300zx for 2 months. I owned a couple of classics and other unique cars but I have never experienced this phenomenon:

I get tailgated more in a 300zx. 4WDs, Bombodores and vans do it. I had some fugger sit on my tail on the Nepean Highway yesterday. I was doing the speed limit and overtaking a couple of slower cars. I ended up stopping in the middle of the Nepean (in the outside lane) and getting out to speak to the courier driver about his manners.

I could be driving down a street and some 4WD will just sit on my arse. All up nice and high to try and push me along a bit faster. I tend to slow down more.

My speedo is accurate. Had it checked.

Noone does this when I am driving my 1964 EH Holden 10km under the speed limit. Noone does it when I'm driving my Subaru Liberty either.

Does this happen to other 300zx owners regularly? Is my car giving off a bad vibe? Was its original owner satan? Do people do it because a 300zx sits low and they think they can bully it? WTF?

Happens alot I think 300zx just look the part and idiots want to have a go because they look fast. It's usually 4x4's here too, never other sports cars.

    Yeah definitely.

Just give them a ration of loud pedal and some somewhat sudden braking and that'll make em ease off.

Trucks always do it to me. I figure if they want to write it off that's fine by me. Less hassle than selling the car :p

Must be your car mate. It might be giving off some magnetic vibe, but it wasn't owned by satan, that car is in my garage! Never happened to me in the zed, supra or soarer. I usually have cars pull over to let me pass but that's about it.

I thought I was the only one! :O

Last night I had a dickhead in a commodore tailgating me down the on-ramp on to the freeway. On-ramp speed limit is 40kph, and I was going 50. No reason to tailgate me. Got a bit annoyed so gave it some stick up to the freeway speed limit as the ramp straightened out.

About 30 seconds later the commodore driver reappears behind me, flashes his high beams, and gets so close I could have sworn he almost rammed me.

He then decided to hoon around me regardless of the fact there was a car in the lane next to me half a car length infront, and then swerved right in front of me, causing me to have to brake, hard, in order to avoid hitting him. Then he did it to the next car.

    Dick. head.

i think its partly due to the hight of these cars. the headlights are pointing right into our side mirrors so its hard to tell how far the car is away exactly.

    and

the hight of these cars makes it very easy to be over seen. these cars roofline is much lower than the average car, so in alot of cases the roof is over looked.

    I tailgate 4WD's.....

I can't see over them or around them, so UNDER them seems the logical solution

    Agreed:
They think because they can see in fornt of us that they can predict anything we are about to do. But really they just don't think. Slow down and let them past, you'll be right behind them at the next slow car or set of lights.

This is how I can imagine it playing out:

Cops: Why did you brake so suddenly?
Z32 owner: Saw something on the road and hit the brakes :(
Them (angrily): BULLSHIT I COULD SEE OVER YOUR CAR THERE WAS NOTHING THERE
Cops: how close were you that you could see over the top of the car in front of you?

Yep, happens all the time to me too. Especially by 4WDs.

I also drive lot of 4WDs (from work) and I've some to the conclusion that because the Z is so low people just look straight over it and don't realize that they're too close to the car in front - the one they're not looking at. They're just bad drivers

+1 the funniest are those boggy old XD falcon/VN Commodore types I sit on the speed limit and p$$ them off just so I can see them ring the arse off their POS as they decide to show me how much power they have.

Fuel to the exhaust? Seen it in a mate's Camaro.

Glad to see another 60s classic lover. Sadly, I'm getting rid of my '64 EH. Broken piston and some rust. It's not the money, it's the time. I love the 300zx so much, I'll concentrate on that instead.

i always get tailgated by falcoons and crumadores and 4x4s and well everything! i thought it was just coz im on my green p's.... obviously a bigger problem than i thought.. although cops never seem to pull me over... EVER! its like they dont see or hear me, its great! nice change from when i had my commodore, i was pulled up a grand total of 23 times in 6 months!
