I have noticed that my a/t is a little weird (or i think so) when im doing 60kph and mash the throttle, it doesnt seem to drop down enough gears, i nearly got beaten by a holden 5lt  i dont condone street racing by the way! but if i were to manual shift it would be perfectly fine!, i tried with o/d off and power on and sometimes it will shift to a suitable gear, other times it will just hold the gear its in, anyone had any similar problems?

yeah mine does that occasionally, if you plan on "mashing the throttle" do it at around 50kph, its just at the right speed to drop a gear and smash past them... but i also do not condone doing such things on a public road

Good idea :) havent actually thought of that, do you know what i mean though? i doesnt seem to want to go back a gear and it will hold the gear its in, real weird, i wonder if it is a sign of a trans breaking down? who knows, i guess tmie will tell

yeah, im constantly wanting to floor it, but it just slowly accelerates instead of the high rev and boost

so just drop 2nd on the auto lol

and o/d can be used to advantage as well.

    Auto diagnostic flow:

    1. TPS - If set to anything other than 0.45(at the ECU not with a multimeter) your shift points will screw around and do what you're describing. The ATCU might be at fault too (loose connections or thereabouts) - it may even throw an error code at you (search auto tranny diagnostics).

    2. Maintenance - Do a full auto tranny service, this would be your best bet at improving driveability.

    3. Kick down switch - this is a switch that's triggered when you floor the accelerator pedal - This tells the tranny to downshift depending on load and current gear. Look in the Service manual for location and troubleshooting.

    4. General auto wear - autos work on valves and electrical solenoids for the most part, if these valves / solenoids are old they may take longer to engage or not engage at all. A simple auto tear down by a mechanic will let you know of these problems. Might be able to tell you just when doing a full tranny service, as it's all there when you take the oil pan off.

Cheers, i serviced the trans a little while ago, every thing seemed ok. it is working i a sence, but as Hidds said, its almost like at 60kph the A/T ecu is like " Nup.. F*&K ya, your staying in this gear" but i did realise if i am doing 50kph it will work perfectly fine, i should do an auto diag though, cheers for the imput guys!

    2nded on TPS check...

and other suggestions. Check TPS first IMO.

Would Conzult be the proper way to check TPS volotage?? i have a reading of 0.42 closed throttle and 3.92 WOT does this sound ok??

Your idle reading of 0.42 is too low. Supposed to 0.45 but of course Conzult reads it in increments of 0.02
so you won't get the display to show 0.45 ever.
0.46 is fine, or if you're patient you can set it so it flickers between 0.44 ~ 0.46
Make sure that the idle switch is closing and opening too.
Have you checked your kickdown switch ?

at 60 kmph the trans should drop to 2nd regardless of the O/D switch position.
You could try using the Power/Hold switch in the power position if your Z is equipped.
Firstly check the TPS settings as per above.

The higher the TPS reading, the more easily it will kick down a gear.
Yours being low will of course do the opposite, although 0.4v is not terribly out of whack.

No worries guys, checked with conzult at idle, the c/t circuit is all fine, i reckon it could only come down the the kick down switch or just a doughy trans now to be honest, im gunna check the a/t for fault codes and see if anything has sprung. . . btw ran fault codes for the engine ecu. Code 55 :-D sorry off topic, just needed to tell someone :) changed knock sencor clip itself, luckily that was all it was .. Pheww
