So as Summer is fast approaching, and I'm yet to have driven my car on a +25° little alone a +30°day I was wondering how Z32s go on a hot summers day. As my car is driven daily it needs to be able to sit in traffic with the aircon on during summer I am upgrading my radiator and oil cooler soon, and would like to add a vent to my bonnet. I going to fit a ASI 56mm racing aluminum radiator - Any suggestions for a good quality oil cooler? - Whats a good quality and resonably priced vented bonnet? - Any other tips for keeping engine temp down? Thanks in advance for your help
the standard zed cooling system is good enough if the cooling system is up to scratch.. when i say up to scratch i mean... -radiator hoses -water pump -themostat -clean radiator (or get a new one like you have said) -temp sensor -engine oil level with those properly done.. you should not see any over heating issues.. plenty of people on the forum have no overheating issues, even on 40 deg + days. its only becomes a problem as parts start to wear out after 20 years on these cars...
^^ Seconded ^^ and further to this, you can also take your car to somwhere like Natrad or the like, and get them to give your entire coolant system a thorough flush too. Just to help get any muddy bits out of your water jackets and lines. But as said, as long as your entire cooling system is operating as it should, theres no need for larger radiators and/or vented bonnets. eg, 30+ degree days, stop start traffic with my a/c on constantly, i rarely go above 85 degrees, and never go above 90.
Agree with above. Don't waste your money on improving the cooling system (especially a vented bonnet :vomit as it is good enough if it is up to scratch. Our cars have a bad rep for overheating because of they're age and the maintenance has never been done. Get your radiator rodded out by any serious radiator shop and make sure the aux fan still works by simulating with datascan or by removing the CTS plug.
Disagree on ONE point...... Alloy radiator....... do yourself a favour and invest in a reputable alloy radiator The oem radiator is pushing 20yrs old It was as cheap as Nissan could get away with, and still do the job. 20yrs of use (and abuse) will take its toll on any part and should be looked at for replacement. Fitting an AM radiator will eliminate the plastic tanks & double the amount of coolant in the system..... IMHO, that's a win/win proposition
Something to check on - when replacing the radiator - make sure you clean out the Air Con Condensor - the amount of crap stuck in the fins of mine was amazing! Also the usuals - fan shroud on (upper and lower) and undertrays are complete. With the above and a stock radiator - you'll have no issues, for that extra bit of safety - or if fitting a FMIC, then upgrade the radiator. Now is also a great time to get a Koyo from CZP with the AU$ so strong
lol stock temp gauge doesnt move untill 103 degrees when its boiling !!! a engine oil cooler, big rad and lower temp thermostat work a charm on mine, couple that with full rad shroud and air guide cool as
anything larger then stock !!! plenty of generic coolers. look for a 19 row. you may need 2 run new lines.. make sure u reinstall the restrictor in the return line dont bother with braided lines
Anything non OEM Basically any gauge with a linear scale or digital readout. Not every gauge is 100% accurate, but with a linear scale you'll know if something breaks. TWD is awesome too
ECUTalk FTW! They also come with audible warning alerts for higher temps that are user defined. Why just settle for an A/M temp guage when you can have everything, for not a lot of money...? I'm sure you may agree on that too Greggy?
Im new to the Z and car scene in general. What does ECUTalk require, how much, and where can i get it?
Some links for you: The actual ECUTalk website showing what it does: Linky-Poo! The ECUTalk Userguide: Linky-Poo! Previous Group Buy of this device with some handy info: Linky-Poo! This was my custom dash install of this device, not available normally and a massive PITA, but good results and very OEM. Linky-Poo! Hope this helps :zlove:
