After playing around with my conzult cable, I inspired my mate to build his own... after modifying the schematic a little, the final result is quite impressive...

So if you are a bit of a technical buff, here is a really cheap way of making a consult cable... It's nice of him to share his creations with the world.. ;)

Nissan Consult Port Interface Module & Cable

I think he has a bunch of the connectors too if anyone is interested... :)

    mmm

seen something like it before but never put one together because there's another type which is just a plain old cable and seems to work fine?

I dare to ask but =>

does anyone know how to make these cables for other cars?

I think the one you're talking about is made from SMT components

and fits into the connector casing. A very neat little item.

Well it sort of depends on the car you're talking about doesn't it

There's heaps of info on OBD-II on the net. Quite a lot of cars use it.

Well one of my mates =>

has a ricey Lancer and he is looking for one for his car. I will have a look around on the net for OBD-II stuff.

    Excellent post

More Zedders should get into diagnostics & even build their own interface cables.

PLMS have made diy PCB's available for some time.

Like the TWD it's not rocket science, the component cost is a minor consideration, building, calibration & testing can be a bit more difficult.

The other option is to buy ready-made interface cables @ circa $100 ea.

NB: One correct diagnosis via yr own cable may save $100's in workshop time alone.

I made my own almost 2 years ago, but was smart enough to

hardwire it in so I didn't have to share :)

Mine is hard wired too, directly to the carputer ;).

But I have a spare cable too I use on the laptop to help others.

    how charitable :)

Mine is straight to the Carputer also. I'm currently working on a graphic LCD display for gauge/error code/mp3 title display on the dash, very easy to do with Conzult type interface and a serial LCD screen :)
