Fuel Setup

Thinking of simplifying/improving my fuel delivery system, after seeing the recent thread about modding the stock series 1 fuel rail but cutting off the ends drilling out the core to remove the bits of steel near where the injectors sit and tig welding on new threads at all four ends with brass connectors (much larger than stock, so less restrictive)

hose from fuel filter, fuel up rail one, back down rail two then hosing to the adjustable FPR then hose back to the tank return.

Does the loss of the dampener cause any issues? the above is a shit load simpler with alot less joints and acute angles.

This is also getting close to finishing my plenum polish and there are lot of mounting points on it for the fuel delivery, so I could remove them to beautify and simplying the engine bay.

I use a 300 degree fuel rain and all SS lines with areomotive filter and fpr, then SS lines to the tank..NO DAMPER
I now want to change to the Winfactory SS fuel rail with bosh injectors because of the availability of E85 (105 octane). There's a growing number of people setting up for E85 here in the states

Yeah, E85 is def the way to go. Caltex are bringing it out in Brissy soon too! Can't wait :D

e85 would be awsome, theres a thread on sau where they did a back to back dyno run with premium fuel, then a run tuned on e85 and the difference was something like 40rwkw

only problem i see if with the cops. e85 gives off a distinct smell, very different then unleaded etc... its a dead give away that there is a diff ecu, or remapped ecu in place + what ever other mods are req....

E85 is actually alot cleaner (as in less emissions) than unleaded so I can't see why there would be a problem.

they could ping ya for emissions and make you get that epa emissions test.

but e85 is a lot cleaner so it wouldnt be an issue. consumption goes up with e85 though, as it has a bit less energy (latent heat? chemistry was too long ago) than petrol.

That's my point though, you would fly through an emissions test running E85

looks like this thread has been dropped but I was watching hoping for an answer to come up for a particular question that has been almost suggested here.

An aftermarket ROM in the ecm, is this a defectable mod??

I know my exhaust is suspect, and maybe my suspension. the engine has also had an EGR delete (Although I truly wonder how defectable that is as the later model engines dont have one) and I have a MBC and Pod filter so yes If I get pulled over I am expecting a canary one day. I am slowly hiding/correcting these issue to make the car appear more standard. But can I get pinged for the aftermarket Rom and if that is enough to get pinged for I go back to one of the points in this thread.

If to run E85 you need a tune or remapped rom etc and this is the only mod could you conceivably be defected for running an aftermarket tune?

I suppose this question could also stand for a LPG conversion as well although less likely but LPG has a higher octane rating (IIRC) and potential for more power with an aftermarket tune.

Aftermarket/Stand Alone ECU's are definitely a defectable item. I got done in my old VLT running microtech... had to do a full engine and ecu swap and EPA test... not fun.

But tuning is expensive as hell because not many guys do it. It's one thing for an Evo guy to do it, but for Z owners, it's rare...

I called Greg and spoke about an E85 tune and I believe he said something like $1200...

Why does it cost so much? Here it doesn't really matter what fuel you run, still takes about the same length of time to tune it.

You can estimate it pretty well, you know the properties of E85, so compensate the maps to suit then tidy up on the dyno.

Just because Greg doesn't have the experience in it. I'm sure in a few years it will be different once more of the US crowd starts running E85 for big HP in high comp engines with large turbos. Supra owners run it, Evo owners run it... pretty much everyone runs it here, just not the Z crowd. It's stupid. It runs along the mentality of going with the crowd that we all do, which is ridiculous and hinders the expansion of new product. Same as the fact that we still use the stock flange instead of adapting to the more widely used flanges so that we could use larger turbos for a fraction of the price... nobody does that.
