    G'day gents,

I had to pull open the gearstick area the other day when the rubber holding the shifter up broke and dropped the shifter assembly onto the tailshaft

After getting a replacement and putting it all together, I found a rogue nylon piece hooked up with the cloth/leather dust cover... and I have no idea where it goes.

It's a white nylon ring, with an o-ring around the outside, about 40mm in diameter. I'll get a photo uploaded when I get home if necessary.

Any ideas on where it's meant to fit? I'm pretty new at opening cars up and doing any sort of fixing, so I'm a bit lost. And thus far, all the microfiche I've found don't help.

    It's a Z32, btw.

it goes on the leather boot for the gear stick. turn the boot inside out, put the white ring at the top (there will be two little tabs of leather that you will need to fold over the ring) and then but the rubber band/o-ring around the leather to keep it against the white ring. then turn the boot back the right way and put it over the gear stick.

Ah, I follow. Cheers! I was a bit confused as I tried to fit it in the hole at the top of the boot, and it was way too large for that!
