Dropped by for a visit today at John's place. Great guy, nice Z, and amazing work on the Ford, even in the dark with just a torch, up close, the material looked very nice.
And also, the material he used is not the type in the ebay link...this stuff is like cloth, a stretchy fabric material with a carbon weave bonded to one side of it, it behaves like cloth, doesnt fray, and conforms very well to surfaces

definitely going to be working with the material in the future. I got some offcuts which I'll see what I can do over this weekend.

but for now I experimented on the back of my phone...

as you can see the material works perfectly fine on the very small curved surfaces, probably because it has a fair bit of stretch and is quite thin, yet it has the carbon texture on top.

    and....here's where to buy it:

Thanks for the kind words Felix, especially about the car, my new girlfriend!
    Like ya phone!
I've been searching heaps for wheels that would suit my Z done in carbon fibre.
Looks like I'm going to do it. If I get sick of it I can just pull it off and get a paint job as I was going to do in the 1st place.
The only thing I don't like about driving the laser is being stared at. In a good way that is.
Suggestions for wheels. Mad max here I come!!!!

looks pretty good, i like it?

how heavy is the cloth, is it adding much weight to the car?

what about moisture retension, ie, is it going to trap water in the cloth or under the surface and perhaps promote rust?

While it's not my thing, I've gotta say I'm really impressed by how clean it's turned out. Top job.

It's very light, about 5kg's for the whole car.
It can't trap water because it's waterproof. And UV treated.
Still can't find a wheel I like, there's millions of them too! Seen nearly every one. Arrr.

You knocking my 1,600cc of pulsating laser muscle?
That was so funny, good one.
It'll be a different story with my Z. All I have to do is source the rite wheels.
I plan on starting in a few weeks as I'll have to order in more cf. I have some left over and I'll see how far that gets me, starting with the bonnet 1st I think.
I've got a rear spoiler coming from ztoy soon. I'll wrap that before I put it on too.
I can see a big thread happening.
I just have to find the rite wheels, something like the pic of the black one?

Looks like a car done in pinstripe contact paper.

    Just My Opinion,

BTW that is Farkin' hilarious. One of the best JewTube clips ive seen in a while. I needed that laugh.

I just got a kit of this stuff. I am going to start putting some on my clubman this weekend. Pics to come...

Unless you're remaking panels in carbon fibre there's no benefit. It's not going to offer you better structural integrity, it's not going to reduce weight and it's gonna make every cop within a 10km radius get a hadron and clutch their little fines book.

Not really a problem with a clubman. Unofficial standpoint of the authorities with ICV's is to ignore them :p

I did see a Clubman a few years ago with a SR20 with complete carbon bodywork, looked hot

I know all that. I am doing it because i was going to paint it mat black but instead i think this will look good and not have to put as much effort into panel paint and prep

It will be going on this so cops will probarbly want to talk to me anyway:p

One day i might be able to afford real carbon fibre but until then...

Well in that case, looking good! :D Did you design that chassis yourself or are you basing it on an existing 30's racer?

It's an Australian designed chassis from South Australia. It is made a bit bigger that the original lotus 7 to accommodate the bigger motor.
