Iv been interested in getting a zed for a very very long time but have only just got the cash and open license for it. Is there a FAQ section/thread im so lost on all the terminology like N/A, aus spec, Brazilian? and many more lol. Also is there a comparison chart or something with all the changes made between all the year models, that would be a great help cheers, matt
Here's one I just found lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_300ZX NA = naturally aspirated engines not super charged or turbo'd Brazilian = no spoiler just a smooth rear Aus Spec = australian edition As for differences between aus spec and j spec I found a VERY old link (the old aus300zx website? lol) on the differences http://dev.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=281641 Just have a look at that! That's all I got and if I got something wrong please correct me people as I tend to get mixed up easilly  Oh, and welcome to the forums! Heaps of neat people here to make friends with and help you out! Tech section is also like, the Bible of the Z lol http://tech.aus300zx.com/ Check out the "Buying a Z" section on this page http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php -YakuzaMoon
mate if you dont know what all that is stay away from a zed. there not the car for you lol not to mention you will have no clue what half the forum threads are about!!! there are so many abbreviations or specific names for all kinds of zed part and mods. good luck
hang on, lets not scare away a new Zedder.. i wont lie, they are a technical car, due to age, lack of care, constant modifications made over time. Some of them can be a literal nightmare of waiting to happen/happening problems. BUT Some can be real golden, if you have the money to spend, know what your looking for. There are GREAT Z's for sale out there .Best advice if you do get one, download a manual or buy one somewhere and try to get used to the forum ASAP and find any NEARBY ZEDDERS... anyone good with cars helps but Z's seem to make most people cringe when it comes time to work on them.
Very helpful thank you, im gonna spend a good few hours tonight looking through some of that text gold i just had a quick read over the differnces between j spec and aus spec and it seems there is some little things different, whats the most obvious/major thing that you can look at to tell if its a grey import or aus.
interesting, i know exactly what i want but finding one is gonna be a nightmare..let alone the quality. i have a few places i check on everyday but right now im just trying to familiarize myself with it all and get a head start. I have a ton of questions about what im after and if its reasonable/possible. is there somewhere i can post or ask or PM and just shoot a few handfuls of questions at or even better someone on msn? cheers, matt
Are you serious? Take your hand of it. :W: Why the hell should new people know half of the abbreviations and terms we use for the zed? Don't be so quick to judge people because they don't understand our slang. I originally through TT was Targa Top when I joined the forum and bought my first zed and I'd already done ground up resto's or much more complicated cars than the zed.
hehe i guess that settles it, although i do know what TT is and targa/slicktop and so on but yea ill PM you now, thanks in advance
seriously if the guy has no clue about zeds, why buy one??? its just going to put a massive hole in his bank account. its not a commodore , its a bloody zed. They Need love, attention and knowledge. When he takes it to a mechanic for whatever reason they will absolutely do him in the ass on price etc because he has no idea about the car. As i said its not a commodore, i was just putting it out there that there is a lot more to these cars.
i understand full well whats involved, im not just some guy who who sat down and said "oh i want one, gimmie" i have the love, attention and access to knowledge through these forums hopefully. I'v been interested in 300s for about 10 years (since i was 10 yes) there have been a few 300zx's in my family so i do have people to ask. My dad is an ex mechanic so theres alot more help there i can utilize. although...i do appreciate your concern for me being ripped off. So thank you for that. now lets all be friends
Friends?? You join this forum, you'll work out pretty soon that it's all QLD vs NSW, VIC vs NSW and WA vs the rest. Oh and Sth Australia and Tasmania are kinda neutral.
AHHAHA, well i'm defiantly a Queenslander, sounds like NSW is boxed in..getting attacked from 2 fronts
good one young Andy ... and we do understand why you take every opportunity to whip up to QLD to catch up with your best mates and the top zedders in this great Nation ... yep ... QLD rules ... !!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I am new, does that mean I'll have the lot of you onto me seeing I'm from the west? lol. And I thought we were all brothers!!!! Sure is good reading here for a newbie like myself, lots of people is the know and are prepared to share it. Good on 'ya's.
I've only been here a few weeks but I have noticed no such rivalry, in fact, the telling this person they shouldnt have a zed if they dont know what shit means is the closest thing to rivalry i've seen (old members feeling supirior to new ones), i'd call it more stupidity though. Generally though this is one of the friendlyest forums i've been on. If you dont know Z slang browse the forum for a week and you'l know it all, if still unsure, google and forum search are your friends, and if those fail, make a new post, might get flamed if theres already a post asking it, but if youv already searched and missed that particular thread I don't see how it matters. IMO 300zx are a great car and the only reason people seem to think they're so problem riddled is the fact that they fail to understand that its a 20ish year old car, and most, especially the twin turbos, have been thrashed to shit. the fact that once you get it running fine it is a very reliable car (quote from many people) goes to prove this, and they are very fun to drive whether NA or TT. If you like the 300zx, then you have made a very good choice in car, there not much fun to work on but (most) forum members are friendly and will give you advice, theres also in most citys atleast one place that specialises in these sort of cars and will do repairs well without ripping you off, just ask local forum members where. Good luck with your Z and hopefully you find a nice reliable one, because if you find one of the ones that havent been looked after well, then they can be the massive pain in the ass everyone will warn you about, but even then, replace everything that breaks with something that will make it go faster and you'l have fun even when stuff breaks. Edit:where I said there not much fun to work on, my oppinion because of the way the engine bay is, but lots of other people find it a lot of fun.
Advice to you. I am a old bloke and I know how young blokes take notice of us oldys 'Ho HO'.I think a Z in the right hands is a good mechanical learning car .But the trick is you must get a good one to learn on. If you are well of and can afford a Lambo , Ferrari or Aston Do-so but if you are working class buy a good Z .They are as quick, and some are quicker than the above cars you can only drive in your means and always drive safely.
