Perth - Zed Value(r)?

HBF sent me out a nice little letter telling me that my Zed will only be insured for $7,200 (instead of $9,000) if i choose to renew my policy with them. I would preferably want to stay with them, because the premiums are only $1,300 per year, which is half of what other companies had offered.

I need to provide a "current written valuation from an independent and authorized car valuer".

Firstly, does anyone know where in Perth i can get this done, and (roughly) how much it would cost?

Secondly, my Zed is an 89 auto 2+2 TT with roughly 145k on the clock. Engine is stock except for a plenum pull and HKS BOV's, turbos are stock ect and it has done its 100,000km's service about 3 years ago (25,000 km's ago). I also had a 2nd hand gearbox (with shift kit), and an aftermarket tranny cooler put in maybe 2,000 km's ago... Is it actually worth $9,000 or is the $7,200 more on the money? I don't want to end up paying someone to value it, and it ends up being pretty much what the insurance company is going to lower it to.

go to another insurance company? ie if shannons says its worth this much, HBF would match it

Thats why I moved from HBF to RAC and then to Shannons.
Check with Shannons. Take your car to them with the mod list. You need to mention your forum nick name and forum details. They will open the bonet and if you are over 25 you will get very good deal. Don't need to go for valuation anywhere else. My car is insured with them for 18.5k and I am paying $744 after 65% no claim bonus. Don't know how much worth your car is. Someone spent $70k on Mr. TT 4/5 years ago and it is now in the market for 8/9k with a blown motor. Ask yourself how much it is worth to yourself.

I am turning 21 this year, but the car is under my dad's name (with me as a 2nd owner) and he is the priority driver on the insurance. Also i initially avoided Shannons because i heard that they won't even talk to you unless you have a fully enclosed garage? Mine only has 3 sides including the garage door, the "back" of it is completely open to the backyard.

I bought the Zed for $8,500 and have spent about $3k on repairs, so i thought $9,000 was a decent amount. That way (if anything happens) i have a decent amount to get another car which is actually in good condition.

You should be OK. Just call them and ask for quotes. Better leave your Dad as a main driver.

VIP automotive solutions did a valuation of my car, very professional service from a certified valuer and I was happy with the outcome. Cost $220. Their office is based in VIC but they operate nationwide and will use a local assessor.

Unfortunately the insurer is by no means obliged to honour the valuation.

I know they aren't OBLIGATED to honor it, but to quote the letter it says "we will amend the sum insured to reflect the valuation certificate".

When calling RAC or HBF they said they will not insure imports at all :S I tried calling back to get a different person, didn't mention it was an import but when it came to list the car as a twin turbo they didn't have the option in their little drop downs. The age thing hadn't even come into it yet. Are you sure they have your car listed as a twin turbo and not an aus spec? When it came crunch time they might not honour your policy if you hadn't told them it was a twin turbo

I'm insured with racv, wasn't a problem and I was 18 at the time with a tt jap spec. only got 3rd party but hey, I never drive it anyway. Just ring around it takes roughly 3 mins to get a quote,

I will call them tomorrow to confirm, but i am very certain that they are aware that it is a TT, and that it is a Japanese import. I remember that it also did not appear in their drop down boxes but something got sorted out after they had a talk with their supervisor.

I have already had HBF health insurance for at least 12 years though, so that may account for them making exemptions. That's also how i got a severely lower premium rate than what RACV had quoted me (they wanted 2,600 per year, i'm paying 1,300 with HBF).

I've been with HBF for over 15 years with health insurance as well so I got the lower premiums etc. I guess it depends on how helpful the person you phone is

Shannons is good for agreed value. My TT is listed for $15k, with myself as primary driver (20yo), all mods listed, no questions asked full comp for $1300 per year + $900 excess, gotta be happy with that :D:zlove:

Called shannons and was given a big "NO". They won't insure me until i'm at least 22, not sure if i wanna bother with Just Cars or not.

Do some driver training courses, say your a member of 'The Australian 300zx Owners Association', have the car in a garage and get a daily (if your dont already). All these things show to Shannons you are what they like to think of as an "enthusiast" not a just a young guy with a fast car so he can rip mad skidz and they'll give you a good deal :p, thats how i got my insurance so cheap at my age :D

HBF was a massive PITA for myself. Spoke with 3 diff people and they refused to insure it without:

    * Complete driving history Audit (Fines, Speeds, Points, Dates).
    * Vechile Evalulation

So I canned my other cars insurance with them and then they rang up saying that it is not standard practice to ask for those details even for my type of car and they are sorry the people I spoke with are unhelpful.

I ended up just going 3rd party with JustCars which cost me ~$250 pa.

Sounds like a 9K car to me if the body is clean and straight also and the interior is in good nick.

Try shannons. Mine was insured for $15K at only $750odd a year.
Part of that is probably coz i'm apparently an old fart at 35, with no claims ever and limited infridgements, and car is always garaged.

Oh, and "limited use" option too. So if yours is a true daily, would be diferent.

Oddly enough, the Z33 is actually CHEAPER to insure than my old Z32TT.

my zed isnt insured (it hasnt moved from the shed for 3 years) but I have had good experience with Just car insurance for my 08 VE SS ute. $1200 premium, $700 excess with an agreed value of $37k. The car is mostly stock with only a set of coilovers and a $10k stereo. Im 24 with a far from perfect driving history.

They were very helpful when I had to make a claim (hit a kangaroo, about 7k damage). didnt stuff me around at all.
