Water Pump Sealant?

Hey guys, what sealant would you recommend for sealing around where the water pump is attached on the engine? and the 2 pipes that let water flow through the engine? Is this same sealant used on other parts during a service? Or is it just for parts involving water

Had a look through the service manual and i believe it says to use Genuine Nissan Sealant or Equivalent... or something along those lines.. However it's a bit of a grey area for me to know exactly what the "Equivalent" actually is.

Would be great if someone could help out :)

    Thanks

I used to use orange permatex silicon for everything. Then i had a string of water pump leaks after fitting new pumps.

I changed to Nissan grey sealant, and started to use a torque wrench for alloy to engine block parts. Problem fixed.

    3bond and nothing else

it is a high temp cycle resistance. is oil water resistant and high vibration resistant as well

I say it is the closest to the factory sealant you can buy

if you get the OEM boxed stuff it has NO english in the box either

ahh i see... probably should of checked up on this thread before I went and bought some other stuff today :(.. Uhm... I got some other stuff though. It's called "Blue Maxx" 587 OEM Grade, made by Loctite. It reads "Sensor safe RTV silicone gasket maker."

    *Outstanding Oil Resistance
    *Meets or exceeds OEM specifications
    *Won't Harm Oxygen sensors
    *Low Odour
    *Non-Corrosive
    *Temperature resistant to +260c.

Is this stuff any good compared to 3 bond?

unless it's rated water resistant as well, I wouldn't use it, after all, you're using it to seal a water pump. For $20 or so is it worth taking the risk, no matter how small ?

Blackhearted profit is correct. The red silicon permatex/locktite I was and had used to for everything for the last 5 years. Isnt, I found out rated for coolant.

As i said, the Nissan grey silicon is $50 a tube and i havent had any failures. It may be expensive but I am still using the same tube over 12 months later. So its not too bad.
