hey guys on this lovely hot day driving home from work my car started to climb towards the H in the stock water temperature gauge after alot of long breaks i finally got home waited to now when the engine was cooler to work and inspect my coolant level was very low i researched all possible causes of over heating in the zed and i was just hoping sumthing simple like a renewel of thermostat. well i filled up the radiator so i can see if im getting any circulation seems like it is as it bubbles up and i keep refilling it up i made sure if there was any leaks under the car and didnt see any when i hit warm operating i notices a lil spray of liquid underneath the throttle cable cover near the back. one of my lines was hissing out fuel or sumthing and spraying it over the top of the engine. not sure if this is a fuel line or water line but this was sitting between the rear and middle cyclinder on passenger side. i assume its a fuel line since its connected to my fuel regualtor. could this cause my overheating problems? it wasnt listed in teh tech section just wondering thats all? could it overheat cause fuel was all over the plenum? cheers
ONLY WHEN IT CATCHES FIRE! Then it will give a whole new meaning to "overheating". Make sure it's fuel and not water(there are a heap of coolant hoses under the plenum)if it's a coolant hose that will explain you overheating problem. N.B. When the needle on the stock Temperature Gauge moves above half way, you are one very tiny step away from a new engine(they generally don't move until it's time for the engine to disintegrate).
You have 2 issues:- First is likely to be a weeping coolant hose which caused coolant loss and overheat. 2nd is a split fuel line or loosened clamp caused by the overheat. Time for a plenum pull.
meaning to do it but not confident enough to do it myself waiting on a tech day or pay someone here to do it as im kinda strap on cash atm i let the idle before and its seems to be reading 9 o'clcok on the gauge but will do a proper test later gonna drive up and down the street and watch carefully wat it reads
I wouldn't be driving it anywhere until you determine the source of the spraying liquid near the throttle cable cover(you've been lucky so far).
is was loose hose clamp it was hissing at the open end of the hose tighten and it stopped spraying but will have to do a plenum pull very soon
Depending on where you live, why not attend next weekend's plenum pull (see Coming Events) and learn how to do it? Meanwhile, a coolant/radiator pressure test may give an indication of where the leak is.
Tech day coming up in QLD in March, see the sticky thread in the coming events section (threads at the top). You will need to buy parts first though. 2 x PCV Valves + full PCV hose kit Upper Plenum gasket K-Zed's full EFI connector kit would be a good idea A few metres of 8mm EFI rated fuel hose A few more metres of 8mm coolant hose 14 or so new clamps for the fuel lines you'll replace Maybe some 4mm and 6mm vacuum line. Black Baz's EGR Blanking plates if wanted That's a barebones start. A lot more can be replaced and checked when the plenum is off/out. Maybe others can add to the list
Right, the next thing you need to do is carry out the "under plenum bypass" in the Tech Section(this is a simple coolant bypass which does not require you to remove the plenum). After that, make sure you have eliminated any air pockets in the cooling system, and take it for a drive(if it still overheats you may find your water pump needs replacing).
i read about that tech day isnt that one in shailer park? i know where that is would love to come but i thought it was like this weekend lol i will definately make room for this tech day if i still have a car to get there lol kinda strap for cash but will like to learn so i can do it asap when cash is available how much is the total of all parts listed wheres a good place to get these parts

sorry i cant seem to find it in the tech section any water bypass i found requires you to do a plenum pull
You have a TT, I believe ... Plenum off is the way to go. Chili is referring to a simple 'under-plenum hose' bypass which is ideal for NA's or ok for a temporary solution on a TT if leaks can be attributed to 'under-plenum', alone.
Absolutely correct Rob, and if you do it on a TT(and have no further problems)then it can easily become a more permanent solution, no?:zlove:
Very true, Lloyd Provided the turbo coolant hoses are replaced at some stage ... able to be done without a plenum pull, although easier if done in in conjunction.
Check my plenum pull page for approx prices/ sources here. CHili and K-Zed are right. Doing a fix of bypassing under plenum hoses with plenum on is only prolonging the agony. There are many other hoses that can/do fail which cant be accessed without plenum off...
