Chad, don't listen to these clowns. If u delete the breathers and seal them up so they're airtight u will turn your cabin into a giant sub box. U will have mad SPL and da chix will throe there panties at u wen u line up at da DB drags. Serious, your sound levels will be so mad your ears will X-PLOD.

dude i understand the theory behind it. we got taught that in primary school

what im trying to get at is do you REALLY think its going to make such a big impact that it will crack a window or reuin seals ....

please tell me how effective you think this breather is in this setup...

the only real way i see of the air getting out of that breather is through the speaker grill... even then that is ALOTTTTTTTTTT of pressure inside a veh to fill completly that the pressure gets that built to releif all the way to it....

dont get me wrong i am asking for reasons why people think i should leave it etc but id also like to see your point and the way i see it is everyone is going theory based....

im not talking about sound deadening. im talking about sound proofing my interior. this is to combat road noise. when doing this mass loaded vynil is used. and when using this product no gaps are to be left. if so you will degrade the effectiveness of combating road noise. and leave a gap in it give the road noise direct access to the interior of my car which im trying to minimise greatly....

dam im going to be sooooo coool esp with the 3 12inch subs going in hey

I would still like to see a rear screen blow out. :p

In all seriousness I don't think it would. The reason being I think Nissan have a slide rule and that little vent wouldn't solve the problem.

But I would still like to see it blow out.

But as far as sucking moisture into the car during a sudden sun shower, a little concerned with that theory, as the rubber flap is designed as a one way valve to allow air to pass out but not in, probably to do with exhaust fumes. ;) (please correct me on this if i am wrong)

So sealing it up is about allowing pressure or air to leave the cabin not enter.

Climbing in altitude equalisation would come from the blower intake, not going to happen.

The car is essentially sealed (not like James Bond's under water car) other then the blower intake and the "duct-drafter" (Nissan FAST part name), no doubt there are any number of places where air can can enter and leave the car especially with 20 year old seals.

It may be there for the sake of the door glass that isn't supported by a frame from flexing quiet forcefully when the door is closed or maybe your blower fan will work a bit harder with all the windows up. Considering the temperature the ballast resister behind the glove box gets to that is probably the concern.

Happy to be challenged on any of the above, just thinking aloud.

Chad go for it because once the rear of the car is full of panties from DB drags as Instamatic reckons, you wont want the stench to escape, and you can use them to wipe the sweat from your brow after the blower motor ballast resistor packs up. :D

Not going to argue too much with the concept of the breather, but people can't seriously think that a zed, and a 20 year old zed at that, will be airtight?

I want to know WTF the big deal with pulling it out is ??

It is out of the way. Doesnt weigh anything, and leaves a hole you have to then fill up after you rip it out.

Just leave the bastard there and forget about it.

Do whatever you like Chad, it's your car.
I just wonder why you needed to ask the original question, when it's clear that you have such a complete grasp of automotive design principles.
Do you really believe that it was designed, manufactured and fitted to the car, for absolutely no reason what-so-ever(and that it performs no function)?
At 3:34 am on the 18/1/10, you didn't even know what it was, now you're an expert.:rofl::rofl:

dude just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't working all the same. sure it might be covered up by a lot of things but even with all that in the way, it's guaranteed the air will find its way through it when compressed. it's air pressure, not constant flow we're talking about here.

Of course the vent will still work with speakers placed above it. Is your boot carpet airtight? No.

But hey, you're convinced you don't need them so just go ahead and remove them anyway. Just don't come whining to us when your a/c is no longer effective, your window seals have twisted into a funny shape and your eardrums hurt everytime you shut the drivers door.

just trying to combat road noise. leaving it there will give road noise direct access to the inside of my car...

yes i didnt click what it was. and when you guys mentioned it, it triggard my mem... that time sound a bit too late for you old fella ?

Rubbish, Its buried under a whole lot of existing crap. The hole is small. the boot liner has sound deadening stuck to the back of it, AND you have all your speaker shit over top of it. It wont let anything in.

    This thread is DUMB

exactly my point with it being effective behind all that shit plus my sound deadening which will seal the boot up :p

So if its not gonna make any difference AND you have to go out of your way to patch up the holes AND you have no idea if its gonna bugger anything up. Leave it alone.

Would this be an appropriate time to point out that he won't be able to hear most of the frequencies his sound system puts out?:zlove:
