What have you done to your zed today? Part 3............

Saw recently that Z1 has cowl grill sets (both sides + fasteners) for only $128! + grabbed some of those never-going-to-break RH door lock actuator replacements!

 

Also, have another few US airbag modules to "test' :rofl: , any suggested experiments for these?

Well i just got " Vertie" back from the mechanics at the bill ( 3600 ) . But at least it's now LEGALLY roadworthy, with a fully working airbag, and pretty blue led dash light for it, and all the funky wiring.

Plus had the power steering pump and rack rebuilt, new front rotors, new brake pads, new tail light bulbs , had the engine bay degreased, and found out it's a different engine in there as too what it says on the rego papers .

Now after all of that it's time for a good wash and polish and vac .

 

replaced the Power Steering pump and low pressure hoses on saturday.
also had a boost leak where a vac line had broken near the intercooler pipes near the radiator. which explained why I wasnt boosting, again.

power steering pump was replaced, so everything from the reservoir down to the rack should be in good order. right?

wrong.

started leaking ps fluid all over the street again.
got down today and had someone steer for me, and its spurting out from before the bracket near the join that connects the high pressure hose to the steel line which runs to the rack.

so looks like my near new high pressure hose which has just done 8000k's might have gone again

so many dramas with this power steering.
but it was good to be able to drive it like a real car for at least half a day

 

Always thought it odd that while TT Z speedos went to 180km/h, the Aussie (NA) Z's were given speedos going to 260km/h - Ford Festiva's & those SMART cars have speedos going up to 180km/h!

So with planning to beef-up the 10/97, figured I'd upgrade the speedo. But with '97 model TT Z's not having the boost gauge, one of those 300km/h speedos wouldn't do the trick. So today I gave it the only alternative!

awesome! was it a straight swap? no recalibration required? no soldering etc?

Sure is, straight swap, no issues other than a reluctant wiring bus needing some pliers

...yes, a bit of unevenness which swapping / adjusting the LEDs wouldn't fix. Even tried some ebay LEDs that I'd bought previously but same effect. So here's the cluster with 4 new replacement bulbs

I did find the brightness & evenness improves with carefully cleaning the clear perspex which distributes the light from the four bulbs. Using a cotton bud, the perspex can be fairly grubby while looking clear. Wouldn't be surprised if spending a bit more time cleaning the upper areas of the perspex fixes the light-spread totally + also results in the needles beaming red to their tips.

Been fitting LEDs for the pods but Nissan's original bulb position for illuminating the wiper icon was very ordinary. So Rob260 suggested fitting one of his console kit LEDs facing the icon - and hey presto!

 

The back of my drivers seat was loose and had an inch or two of free play in it plus it badly needed recovering. So I bought another one off RedTT's parts car a week ago and today I put it in.

I spent about 5 minutes trying to get the two bolts at the rear of the seat out but just couldn't get a very good grip on them, they were very difficult to get to. I was wondering how on earth they put them in in the first place - when a brilliant idea suddenly hit me - "I could slide the seat forward" I thought. I did so the bolts came into clear view and were as easy as pie to undo. (They didn't give me a PhD in physics for nothing).

 

This made me laugh. haha.

New shoes? Some flare? Paint?
