Not sure if anyone cares, but here's a comparison between a '93 NA Auto and a '97 NA Auto harmonic balancer. As you can see, they're significantly different, the '97 one (on the left) is much lighter.

Front comparison, '97 on the top in this shot.

Yes I've read late model Z's have lightened balancer's (compared to early model). Reason why I'm not buying an aftermarket one for mine :)

Oh don't get me wrong, it's still stupid heavy, just lighter than the earlier model ones.

I never liked the idea of an after market harmonic balancer but if it's OEM it gives me more faith. Might keep an eye out.

See even Nissan realized in the end the original unit was over engineered

(and that's when the fight started)

most likely because it was put on during its lifetime rather than it came with it from factory.

Nope... We paired the two up and the only different was the lack of metal in the middle of the HB.

NA to TT, the power steering belt is different. 3/4 ribs respectively.

There's a point where they went to electric HICAS and so the TTs dropped the 4PK PS belt and went to 3PK & the NA style pump. Could be late 94 or thereabouts but certainly by 97.

Until they went to electric hicas and all ran na pumps. Interesting that the early balancer looks to have 2 layers of rubber while the later one only looks to have 1 layer. Don't suppose you weighed the 97 one?

Bugger I missed this...concentrating on getting the job done tonight! I dropped the ball on this one guys, sorry :(

But it was a noticeable weight lose, even with the ol' lift it with your test ;) but nowhere near as light as the UR pulley as Dean said yesterday.
