Hi Pro's and Con's between the Flex Z and Street Advance Z TEIN coilovers? My understanding is that the flex Z have a full length thread so that adjustments can be made from the bottom but also have heard others advise not to go flex for street as they are too harsh, (despite the same spring rates) So - Should I go Flex Z or Street Advance ? Cheers Jamie
Flex include new upper mounts, Street require you to swap the rubber tops off your old shocks OR to purchase new ones separately. There is no reason for the ride quality to be diminished with flex compared to Street. Spring rates are the same and both utilise a rubber bush type upper mount.
I used the flex Z and was dailying it for a while, definitely a bit more stiff than other coils from other manufactures, but not unbearable unless you have really bad roads. I really enjoyed driving with flex Z's, I'll probably buy another set on my new zed when these wear out
In Victoria at least, the Street Advance are road legal. The Flex are not. Something about the way they are mounted, I can't quite remember.
I think you'll find the Flex are not legal because they use a pillowball top mount. For street work you are better off sticking with something that uses the oem mounts !!!
The Flex Z coil overs for Z32 have a reinforced rubber upper mount, just like the OEM mount. The superseded type flex had a pillowball upper mount. Issues of compliance revolve around the threaded adjustable clevis clip that is found on the flex z. Any coil over thathas independent ride height adjustment will have a threaded body and adjustable lower clevis.
My understanding was that the pillowball mount was/is an optional extra (for those wishing to adjust camber via the flex Z)
Something's lost in translation there, camber by strut top adjustment is only for macpherson strut type suspension, Z32 (and R32) are double wishbone/A-arm or some similar almost the same but actually a specific variant. Camber adjustment with a double arm set up is only achievable by adjusting the length of one of the arms.
Sorry I meant because the new zed I bought has different coilovers from another manufacturer. I'll switch to flex Z's when the current set from the other manufacturer wear out.
