Hope it’s not to big a problem sorry to hear that yes iv put a lot of time cash blood skin and anger at time lol but it’s worth it I think In the end iv spent countless months on here over the last 3 years iv found this sight to b a wealth of knowledge and the people verry helpful it hard to find people who know Thea’s cars most don’t want to know (it’s to hard) it good to know u can post any problem on here and some one will know good luck with both of your z’s
I think I have more investigation to do on bolt in the turbo as iv been advised it may be in the waste gate is this correct have been told to disconnect the actuator and open the waste gate flap is this correct everything turns smooth iv blown air in the turbo no rattling
Given the anatomy of a turbocharger it seems extremely unlikely the bolt could migrate from the turbocharger inlet to the wastegate...
Bret, im assuming you had the turbo bolted to the exhaust manifold and the exhaust was still connected at the time you originally dropped the bolt? Im also assuming that you had either or both the air intake and turbo outlet covered with rags? If so the only place you could have dropped the bolt was down into the compressor side of the turbo. either into the intake (unlikely because it is side on and facing the radiator and there is little room to get something past the tight fitting compressor wheel) So most likely down the compressor outlet which was facing up more towards the bonnet and is the perfect place to drop a bolt. If you dropped a bolt into either of these locations there is no path through to the waste gate past the turbo bearing. the only way for a bolt to go from intake to exhaust is through the engine via intercooler, intake, past valves into combustion chamber back out past valves into exhaust manifold and then into exhaust housing / wastegate. so i would so no chance its in your waste gate. Still can't say if its hiding in the compressor side somewhere though. You originally said you heard it fall in . You'll have to be absolutely sure it's not in there or it could be bye bye engine. if there is any doubt i think you should pull the turbo if possible, or if as i here a lot, its engine out to pull a turbo. if you stuff that motor after all your work your going to wish you pulled it out cause you'll be pulling it out anyway if that bolt does get spat out.
I thort it went down the snail shell iv blown it out with a air compressor turned the fans by hand all is ok then I was told to check the waste gate?
maybe someone could comment on weather the car would run with only one turbo connected. If so you could start the car without connecting the suspect turbo. if the turbo does have a bolt in it it might get blown out into you bonnet this may leave you with a damaged turbo but not a damaged motor
Yes u are correct the one facing up is we’re i thought it went I have triple checked as I’m fully aware of wot will happen everything spins as it should and blew it out as our earlyer conversation there is no rattling I was pretty confident till I was told this waste gate issue
id disregard the waste gate theory totally but the guy that offered that advice may not have known how much you had pulled apart so im not discrediting him. All help is good help just have to go through it in a process of elimination
The engine was in the car the hole time the exhaust was only removed to do the auto and rear main seal and put back on the turbo has been on the engine the hole time it’s not in the inlet iv had the bore scope in there had a look and removed the inlet hard pipe to spin the fan

It was a 10 12 mm bolt can’t remember exactly what size it was it was a while ago I’m ashuming a bolt of that size wold ither jam the turbine or make a rattling sound
