Once the black 2+2 manual is on the road for my wife I'll be cracking on with the blue 2 seater. The plan for this is to be properly fast (500rwhp minimum) but seeing as there's already going to be two manual turbo street cars in the household I reckon this one needs to be auto for better strip times and consistency at the ever popular roll racing/ cars and coffee style events. I know less than nothing about the factory autos other than Nissan used them in lots of other stuff like Patrols etc. Do they have decent horsepower potential at the numbers I want to achieve? Are they easily modified like the venerable toyota A340 for firmer, faster shifts and decent convertors or even transbrakes? I'd love to get this thing deep in the tens and upset a few v8 bogans.
So youre looking for 330kw but what sort of torque? Some patrols with the TD42t have in excess of 660nm and the box handles it fine. Manualised valve body or modified valve body?
I'll just get my handy piece of string calculator for the torque level on a car that isn't built yet It will have HKS2530's rebuilt with 2860 (I think) CHRA's so I imagine torque will be substantial, more than 660nm is unlikely I would think though. No idea on valvebody mods thus far, this post was designed to educate myself on what is possible with these trannies. Would be nice to be able to chuck it in D and cruise around without issue but if a manualised body is a better bet for efficiency and durability I'll go that route. It will cop a ratchet shift of some description for this as well.
the new 1/4 mile times thread lists a 9second Z with the nissan auto in it, obviously must be modded but shows that with the correct mods they must be able to handle a good deal of power/traction
They handle a lot of abuse/power. At 600NM I'd be temped to leave it 'as is'. They are cheap to buy at least.
