Hello from Greece. I'm a member here for a long time and you have helped me a lot. More than anyone. So i'll try to make a presentation of my car to keep you updated. Lets start. I own a 240sx s13 and i made a vg30det swap to my car. I have it running like that for almost a year with no problems. The engine is from a cima and it is almost stock. I have an apexi filter, fmic from evo 9, custom stainless i/c pipes, 76mm turbo back exhaust, jic magic coilovers, 6x440cc injectors, ams u/d pulley and many more that i cant remember right now. I use a z32 ecu to control the engine and it runs really well. The programing of the ecu is made from me:thumbup: Here is some pics and a liltle video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IbgbVXfSwQ]YouTube - vg30det s13 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja0QL1Z1tX8&feature=related]YouTube - 240sx vg30det videoclip I have recently went to a dynno to see my power. 288 hp and 46 kg of torgue. It is really promising but it is limited from the small turbocharger(t3n1,same as rb25det). The turbo is in it limits. It hits 0.7 bar overboost and it goes down to 0.45 at the rev limiter. The dynnosheet is quite impresive as it has over 260 hp at a very large band. Almost from 3500 to 7300 the power is over 260 hp with a really straight line.... It is time to change the turbo and see what will happen:thumbup::thumbup: here is the dynnosheet
Oh what's that a VG30DET hehe, sexy as hell. You really need to do something with the stock turbo like throw it in the bin. Do you want to come work on mine, you need a holiday By the way your nuts, driftys at a servo station
Well done Nice light car. Nice powerful engine with heaps of Torque. Run it down the 1/4 mile yet? Would be interested in what times she pulls Will be faster than a Z32 in theory due to better power to weight. Love your work. Out of interest, why did you choose the VG over the more popular RB swaps?
That's a good question.... To tell you the truth i was going to put a sr20det but i found the vg30det engine really cheap with auto transmission loom and z32 ecu. 700 us$ costed me with a spair z31 manual tranny which i use. So i said that it worth giving it a try as it would be something unique and for sure more powerfull than the sr. Now i believe it is even beter than an rb because its a sorter engine and the car has better stability and also the torque of a vg is a "wet dream" for the rb.
hi there .. you work is something else .. and that engine bay is a work of art ... congratulations ... and great to see yet another country represented on this forum .. .. it would be great to hear from you a little more often ... top stuff and thank you for your input ...!!!
nice work mate... you definatly have something to be proud of. how did you go with wiring the engine into the 240sx ? i'm doing my research now to convert an s14 (95-98) 240sx from sr20det to VG30DETT good job, very interested to hear more about your car.
No i dont use nistune, i use an eprom burner and tunerpro. I have a wideband installed in my car and i tuned it myself.
I know a litle bit about electronics and wires, so i printed the wiring diagrams of the z32 and the s13, made the conections first on the paper and then at the car. I also baught a consult and chekced all the sensors with a laptop. It seems easy but believe me it is for sure a "pain in the @ss"
great... fitting the engine and box is the easy part then... getting it running is going to be interesting. cheers mate
Giasou patrida, orew autokivito. I can see a lot of work in that. Looks very nice. I think it will be hard to get all the power to the ground. The S13's don't weigh much and can imagine the rear end bracking traction very frequently. Perhaps investing in traction control may be a good idea. Drive carefully. By the way, the S12 (Silvia/Gazelle) were also released with VG's in America. So this engine would have fitted no problem in the S13. The engine bays are the same. All the best. Peter / pavagiotis.
lol that's a standard 240sx (180sx) rear end. EDIT: No im wrong (just double checked). Holy crap you're right its not stock. Looks like the rear 1/4 window from a Z32 interesting....... EDIT: My guess would be the hatch is 240sx stock but the rear 1/4 window is custom? (going by this other 240sx pic for reference)
Nice power and torque curve, should be a great performance daily driver. And of course if you want more power then the next size up GT turbo will do that. Have heard that the DET heads flow better than the DETT heads, valve sizes are the same, but I'm not sure if that is correct. The US S12's had the VG30E motor, not the later twin cam jobs like the VG30DE.
Perhaps add a turbo like this: Its a T61 It goes quite well even on 7psi boost. Once the larger injectors (410cc) are in is 1 bar time! L8r E
The hatch is stock. The rear 1/4 window is NOT. it's either modded or replaced with something made to resemble the Z32's rear 1/4 window Stock 180sx/240sx rear 1/4 window The rear 1/4 window in question (note the premature curve at the rear) Z32 rear 1/4 window (worst part of the Z32 imho) Can the original poster shed some light? it's interesting that's for sure. On this topic, has anyone seen any "aternatives" or modifications for the Z32 rear 1/4 window? something....retro?
