    Hey Sly,

As most people here have said, you won't make any big gains in power spending for mods to an NA.
If you stick to the items Chrispy has suggested(not necessarily in that order)you will just about exhaust the available options open to you.

You will STILL have a reliable car that is fun to drive and you won't spend quite as much on fuel as a TT owner(and more to the point, "Joe Public" watching from the side of the road, won't have a clue as to whether it's a TT or an NA).

I bought a TT(because I wanted one)and I have spent a lot of money on upgrades and mods, but on a twisty mountain road there is 2/5 of SFA difference between my TT and a well driven NA(it's on the straight stretches that a TT runs away).
It's been my experience that the "twisty bits" far out number the "straight bits" everywhere except on main highways(and main highways address that imbalance by having many more Police cars).

Chrispy generally gives sensible advice(but as you may have noticed above)he usually exhausts that good advice after 8 lines.:p:zlove::zlove:

For the dollars involved in those three mods, you will see very minimal improvement(and a lightened flywheel has some loss of low-down torque over a stock item on an NA).
I just spent some effort on praising the concept of buying an NA(and comparing it favourably to a TT) and you want to nit-pick that advice?:mad:

I see you didn't have any issues with my comments about twisty roads and TT vs NA performance.:rolleyes:

Maybe I should just join Chrispy in his "all NA's are crap" club.

fair enough im not really out there 2 drag people or brag i know my car is obviously not the quickest i not asking 4 it 2 be just want 2 improve it, but i think the n/a's are underestimated i seriously have beaten a few v8 commodores (not talking your hsv's or anything with like 300 stock kw's) they way a hell of a lot more than my car and my car has better power 2 weight ratio.

guess also depends on the driver the guy in the tt was going 4 it i find the na's are quicker in acceleration and rev harder than the tt's (stockish) cos unless you have spent some decent coin on them by the time both turbos have spooled up and kicked in the n/a will be ahead cos there is no lag but thats just my opinion.

but in top end once turbos have kicked in ill get eaten

    mine is in excellent condition.

how do you find yours? done anything 2 it?

they said they have had people who have spent big money on there 300zx's and they have found problems.

so that was a good thing 2 here its mechanically a1

I never said all NA's are crap, just not the best for getting good power out of. I was planning a evil NA build a few years ago, have a good search I posted up heaps of info. The problem is the awful $/kw ratio, it's around $100

i can sit here and say tt are the crappest but there not, it comes down 2 personal preference i guess

and 4 you 2 say n/a autos are the crappest that major bs 2 me, i bought an n/a and auto cos i wanted 1 and it was in better condition than any other 300z i looked at i didnt care weather i had an n/a auto or manual or a tt auto or manual i just love the 300zx in all forms

i dont want major power upgrades i want helpful advice thats why i came on here i dont want excessive power i just want improvements in all areas power, handling general issues and problems etc!

is it just me or am i getting put down cos i own an auto n/a 300 and want 2 spend money on improvements cos it is my pride and joy.

im not having a go at any1 here its all good advice it just seems that way 2 me.

    thanks chris.

    =)

if you keep using 1, 2 and 4, instead of "one", "to/too" and "for" the spelling and grammar police are going to hunt you down :)

fair enough im just finding it hard 2 get good advice everyone tries 2 steer me 2 tt versions and tell me im wasting my time, you are all probably right i just want 2 do up my n/a 2 help improve it.

the n/a i find are pretty thirsty for fuel = guess like every car depends how you drive.

why is it so expensive 2 modify the n/a compared to the tt?

    cheers

I've never understood why it's quicker to write '2' instead of 'too', and the like. You have to reach further for the keys. The habit really is only useful for text messages where you have a 160 letter limit.

As for upgrading your NA auto, i'd recommend keeping it stock, to be quite honest. If you 'upgrade' the suspension, you'll break your back but struggle to thrash it through the mountains cos it's auto (i'm not bagging out autos here just speaking from experience in that autos aren't that much fun in this regard). Power mods on an NA are also quite useless, i should know. I've spent thousands, and sure there are a few improvements to be had, but the cost vs benefit thing pretty much dictates you're wasting your money. Get a nice quality exhaust, keep it well serviced and rust free and you'll have many happy years of zedding.
Also I highly doubt you could beat a TT in your NA. I have a manual slicktop NA and i'd have no hope of beating one, though i've never tried.

Also NA zeds aren't particularly terrible on fuel unless something is wrong, what do you deem 'thirsty'?

Edit: just reading back over some of your posts, what do you mean by the NA's rev harder? That makes no sense, boost in a TT makes it rev faster, obviously, so this is impossible...?

tt was stock! im not being big headed or anything, i know in the long run a good tt will eat me 4 breakfast or anything i just find and have been told by a few z turbo owners and mechanics that stock tt are not much quicker off the mark/short distance unless you have spent some money on them compared to a n/a which has no lag or turbos to spool up.

i know beating someone in a straight line or anywhere doesnt mean anything. i dont care about racing people i do it for fun sometimes.

i just honestly love the 300zx it has been my dream car ever since i first saw one,

driving my 300, cruising with the roof of its like my own chill out room on wheels with looks and a bit of grunt!

thirsty as in they love the fuel when you put your foot down like most cars i guess, and when it needs a service the fuel milage seems 2 drop compared 2 when its been serviced and tuned.

i get around 400 just over k's to a tank of fuel

is that normal for a 300?

im guessing the tt's like fuel

no boost or lag compared to a tt

where as with turbos you have to wait for them to spool up and the boost to kick in to get rev out more quicker, and the n/a just revs if that makes sense.
