vibration

    hey
    when goin over 70 i have a vibration through the centre console of my car any ideas??
    it doesnt affect the performace whatsoever as far as i can tell

    could be anything. start with the usual suspects:

    1. Wheels/Tires: out of balance
    2. Driveshaft carrier bearing could be shot
    3. Tension rod bushings: cracked/leaking?

    I will put my money on option 2.

    If that is the case you will need to either replace the centre bearing of get a 1 piece tailshaft.

    what are we talkin money wise for parts an labour?

    Labour is not too hard to do yourself, parts wise I got a 1pce made up by Jeff Lagerway in Knox for $350 change over but I think it has gone up a little since then.

    Not sure about the cost or work involved in getting a new centre bearing and replacing that rather than getting a one piece tailshaft.

    You are talking $500-$600 supply and fitted for a locally built one-piece tailshaft(the dearest, but definitely the best option long term).

    Is the carrier bearing the same as the center bearing? i have the same problem but i dont think that the center bearing is whats causing the problem? :confused: if i rotate the shaft 180 to the rear diff would this change any thing?

    You all forget the uni joints.

    I have had vibrations in both my cars. Changing the center bearing did nothing in either of them. One piece fixed it.
