I want my own thread too. I've started a blog regarding my upcoming engine build. http://evzvg30dett.blogspot.com/ It's a work in progress but give it a squiz anyway. Cheers, Evan.
That looks great Evan! I'll be keeping a close eye on your blogspot to follow your progress. All the best with this one, as some big power figures look very promising! Cheers, Benny.
the picture of the long block says this "Image of actual engine taken from www.300zx.com.au"... its actually from UAS shop page Also if you purchase a brand new OEM long block? what else do you need? Only need to rebuild the topend?? ie heads etc. ? or what would be nice to know
Yes, that's where it's from and that's the actual engine that's on a truck heading my way at the moment. 300zx.com.au and a host of other addresses all point to UAS Heads are already on. I (my mechanic) just needs to bolt all of the other bits on, plenum, turbos, manifolds, etc. Cheers, Evan.
UAS are just supplying the long block. Everything else is being done here in Perth. Don't want to add up what all of the bits cost - I know it's not going to add to the resale value. But then that's not the point
Does the OEM long block come with upper plenum, fuel rail, CAS, turbos/mani's etc. I know you are upgrading most of those parts, but my understanding was that the only official OEM long block you could buy came with everything (incuding turbos as well as fuel reg, throttles etc) Just wondering if you could clarify what exactly was including in the "OEM longblock" Looks like a good build, a bit disappointed your going with AMS manifolds and Z1 dumps but thats my own personal opinion, will definately follow this one. And another big HP zed one WA roads is always a good thing.
Nope, all of the things that you mentioned are not included. My understanding is that short block is without heads, long block includes heads but nothing else. The link below from concept Z seems to confirm this, http://www.conceptzperformance.com/..._Type=NIS300&UID=20081112233242124.169.46.253 Also the link from ttzed.com http://www.ttzed.com/products/products_detail.cfm?CFID=29519574&CFTOKEN=7873157&cat=62&grouping=3&grouptitle=Nissan%20OEM&PartID=60&page=1&title=OEM%20Engine&do=detail
Hi there Evz, I had considered going a similar route. When i was adding up the costs of various ways of doing the rebuild, two things I allowed for on the new long block were a new timing belt and short coolant hoses. What do others think ? Just thought that if the cam belt was sitting in a fixed position for maybe 15 years, it wouldnt be the best. I wonder when the engine was built ? I will be interested im how she goes, new lifters new cam gears new everything, got to be a good thing :zlove:
The motor made it to Perth OK. Next week I need to source a couple of engine mounts and the following week she should go in.
arr nice man you must be the only person on here to run a brand new enigne. You have to tell us how it feels and sounds compoared to a 18yr old one
I decided to hold off a couple of weeks until the new gearbox arrived. It arrived yesterday so mechanic can now bolt everything together before the transplant. I was hoping to get it back before Christmas but I'm kind of doubtful that that will happen. Cheers, Evan.
