The problem with wanting to keep your car looking relatively stock looking / stealth, is that when you buy more and more gadgets, you start running out of places to put them. This is where you come in.

I just purchased a few Defi gauges. 3 are coming from the US, and 1-2 will be coming from Japan.

So I need to find a location for 5 gauges, and try to make it so they don't look out of place, and preferably in positions that don't catch the eyes of passer-bys.

Now, I can't place them in a DIN holder because of:

I was thinking of putting one or two in the stock instrument cluster like DUB's setup below:

The only issue with this is, I will not have the stock oil pressure and boost gauges available to convert to a fuel level meter, so it will most likely only be one gauge that I place in the cluster. If there are any aftermarket fuel level gauges that people can suggest then maybe I can go the route of having two gauges in the stock instrument cluster.

So I still have 3-4 gauges to place.

I was thinking of a Street-to-Strip-esque 3 gauge cluster.. thing like so:

Unfortunately I can't use the StS gauge holder because it only houses 52mm gauges, and Defi BF series are 60mm unfortunately. Anyways, this type of holder is a possibility.

I now have zero or one gauge left to house. I was thinking of a single A-pillar gauge pod for the boost gauge. I'm not really a fan of the A-pillar gauges, but I can't really think of many other options.

I don't mind going really custom with the placement, but I don't really have many ideas. Seeing as I am fairly tall, I was thinking that perhaps I could remodel the instrument cluster hood in fibreglass and have a gauge arrangement there, but I can't really see being able to pull it off without it looking ugly and out of place.

    So, any ideas?

    :)

you could attach one to the inside of each pod.. personally I just wouldn't want that many gauges.

Look on the internet Smiths Gauges. They make an electronic fuel level gauge.52mm diameter, should fit in cluster in place of oem fuel guage.

Thanks for the links Mr G.

I don't like either of those options either, but they have given me some ideas.

    Cheers.

Cheers bazza. Not really what I am looking for in terms of style, but its a start, and possible last resort. Cheers.

    Any other ideas people?

They're only illegal if they obstruct your field of view I think. Don't some cars come with them stock?

A-pillar gauge holders are not illegal (in QLD at least) as long as they don't obstruct your field of vision and don't utilize any fluids under pressure that could spray onto your windscreen. Ie. you can have a boost gauge or amp meter, but not oil pressure (unless it's electronic reading and would be hard convincing a roadside cop on that fact).

I plan on drilling a hole down through the dash right next to pod (already have pushed a small drill through carefully to test, looks fine) and sending the wires straight through, neatening the enterance with a plastic bung that will sit in flush with the dash, so hole won't be very obvious. I plan on keeping the car, so while some people would cringe at the thought of drilling through the dash, not a problem IMO! :D

From previous experiences (having been canaried for a-pillar mounted gauges in victoria), A-pillar mounted gauges are illegal if they are higher than the highest point on the dash and if they obstruct with the driver's field of view at an angle greater than 15 degrees from the driver's vertical line of sight.
