Hi all, Looking at buying my first Z - an 89 Z32. Just wondering: I'm looking at various parts, etc on TTZ and almost everything is marked 90-96. I thought the 89 Z32 fell in that range ? Is there anything I should watch out for when buying after market parts that have 90-96 in their description ? thanks, Steve
no they first started production in 1989.........now im not sure if this bit is correct but they started to export them in 1990??? thats half statement half please correct me ... but there were very few minor changes done over the 7 year period of production.... ie very few changes in looks and engineering were done.... ie... steering wheel is different in the later models as are the tail lights and wing...... there are more but cant think of them right now......89's are just as good imho but the newer...not in all cases... the better
the Z31 finished production and Z32 started in the same year so I guess it's easier to refer to the Z32 as 90.. plus they started selling them here in 90 so just say yours is a 90 when you visit auto part stores or they'll sell you Z31 stuff
ah okay, thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure, so I wasn't buying parts that were clearly marked as not for my car...
Absolutely! Say it's a Z32 or just a 1990 model or you risk getting Z31 items! This happened a few times to me in my first month of owning the Z, especially at places that don't know jack about the cars (ie. at Supercheap Auto or Repco).
Lil history - well wat i have found out - the 89 Z32 zeds (or as I like to call them FIRST Generation zeds ) were manufactured at the end of the 12th month (December) 1989 - hence they only stated 89 models as 90s but as said be careful when ording parts of the 89 model as it u just say 89 300zx they will assume it is a z31 :zlove:
Details Incorrect >> The 1989 Z32 was manufactured prior to the dates that you have given. The earliest ID Plate that I have seen is June 1989. Also check when ordering that the Service Department accepts your Chassis Number, this will help to ID the year & Model number for ordering most parts for your Z32. Cheers Kerry :zlove:
Over here in the Uk the first series 1 cars were sold in June 1989 and the climate control system was changed in 1991 because people were taking their cars to the dealers complaining that the screen demist wasn't working. It was infact the climate control would only use the central vents until the car reach preset temp. No good if its raining because you can't see jack till the screen is clear. The series 2 face lift came to the UK in 1992 No more twead just Alcantara and leather + seatbelts moved from door to A pillar.
Chassis numbers 300ZX over their production run. http://www.parkingdenied.com/index.php?q=node/3163 Found in another Technical topic
