    Go the Camry's!!! (we have 2 camry's)
I was thinking a Stagea would be a good family car. Or a Mitsubishi Legnum.

Well I've been looking around for a sedan to replace the Zed now that a new member of the family has arrived. I've looked at quite a few cars and it looks like i'm going to settle for another Nissan :D

Sorry to get off the topic of XR6T's here, but does anyone have any experience with, or know about the Nissan 350GT ?? Think I might import one :)

Theres the sedan with a 8 speed transmission

I've always been a Holden Hero up till now. I have lot of respect for the XR6 Turbo. Those engines have massive potential. Sorry to all the Zed fans when I say this but that 4 Litre Turbo six makes the VG30 obsolete, and so it should with technology available these days. With the talk of engine conversions, why not put one of these in with a 6 speed auto behind it?

I would only go for a BF 6 speed auto. If I did not need to be a two car family, the wagon and Zed would be gone in a flash and one of those babies sitting in the shed :D

But for the record, the Zed will turn heads further :zlove:

The old 4spd auto is a bit weak when you

start modding the engine (can't hndle the additinoal HP), and stock rods start to break at around 330 rwkw :D
But then again, you'd expect that :p .
My friend just upgraded his XR6 turbo to an F6 typhoon with the 6 spd gearbox. He's happy as a pig in mud.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

A couple of months after I bought my Zed ($17000 - $14500 with trade-in (crapped-out Z31)) I was offered $20000 trade in on the (then) new Maxima.
    I've still got the Zed!

It makes me laugh when Holden fans even "think" they're in the same league as what Ford engines are capable of!

...oh that's right Holden dont make engines anymore I forgot! :D

There is actually several 1000hp+ single turbo kits for the LS1, LS2 and L98 V8's used in Holdens. Pretty good price for a 1000hp+ system.

With a little bit of Holden under their bonnet, JONATHAN HAWLEY sampled the Alfa Romeo 159 and Saab 9-3 SportCombi to see if each has its own personality.

Earlier this month, two manufacturers from either end of Europe launched new cars that at face value have very little in common. Except, that is, their engines, which are made in Melbourne.

Both the Alfa Romeo 159 sedan and Saab 9-3 SportCombi wagon use versions of the same V6 engine powering every six-cylinder Holden Commodore (and its derivatives) sold today.

    What Europe says

    Alfa Romeo 159

"The engines - all of them - feel exactly like Alfa engines should. The V6 you could mistake for the outgoing unit, with the same all-encompassing smoothness and wide power band, the same growl progressing into a snarl when you ask for serious power."

    -Autocar

"Despite their GM genes, both petrol engines feel and sound like proper Alfa units. The V6 is very tuneful, and feels powerful and smooth."

    -Auto Express

"The V6 picks up its Alfa traits of high-revving gruffness and instant throttle response, but rest assured, none of the GM-based engines feel as though they were borrowed from a Vauxhall."

    -Daily Telegraph

    Saab 2.8 V6T

"As you'd expect from the most modern V6 engine available, it is smooth and seamless, but in many ways lacking character. As hugely competent as the V6 undoubtedly is, we're tempted to bet that the V6 is an answer to a question only really being asked in America."

    -Autocar

"A fine new V6 that pulls smoothly across a wide rev band. But the V6 overtaxes the chassis, causing the steering to tug if you accelerate sharply."

    -Top Gear

"The turbo is almost lag-less, building a nice spread of push without troubling the front tyres as much as you think it might. It's fast."

    -What Car?

    Aussie V12 for new Cadillac
Greg Kable, The Sydney Morning Herald, 23/03/07

Two Commodore engines will power a new super-luxury model, writes GREG KABLE.

Just when you thought the world?s largest maker had got the message on climate change, General Motors is developing a V12 engine ? in Australia.

Two Commodore V6 engines will be joined end-to-end to create the monster engine, which will power a new Cadillac flagship. The new super Cadillac is expected to be based on the same underpinnings as the Australian-designed Holden Statesman but it will have a Cadillac body.

Given that GM is poised to reintroduce the Cadillac brand to Australia ? and that design work on the V12 is being handled by Holden ? the car could be on Australian roads as early as 2010.

Bob Lutz, GM?s product boss, says development work is ??well under way?? in Australia.

The opulent V12 flagship draws its inspiration from the Cadillac Sixteen concept car, shown at the Detroit motor show in 2003. Perhaps GM has got the message on fuel consumption ? the original concept was a 13.6-litre V16 developing 750kWof power.

The plush new sedan, described by GM as an all-American rival for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Lexus LS 460, will provide buyers with a home grown alternative to some of the world?s most distinguished luxury cars at a price that is likely to undercut the competition dramatically.

The distinctively styled rear-drive model will be positioned above the DTS, which is Cadillac?s current flagship luxury sedan, with a list of high-end features never seen before on a Cadillac, including the latest in crash avoidance and safety technology.

It will be a key component in Lutz?s push to provide Cadillac with a more international flavour and drive sales in new markets outside the United States.

For years Lutz has wanted a top-end grand tourer in his stable. In 2003 he told journalists he wanted GM to develop an ultra-luxury sedan, a ??Cadillac Cunningham?? that would come in three models, a V8, a high performance V8 and a V12.

Interviewed in Britain last week at the opening of a Hummer dealership, Lutz said Australian engineers are already working on the new V12.

The V12 mates two of the company?s 60-degree 3.6-litre V6s on a common crankshaft. Sources say the V12 will have features such as direct injection, cylinder deactivation and a state-of-the-art automatic gearbox to ensure competitive levels of power and economy.

Cylinder de-activation, which shuts down half of the cylinders during cruising and reactivates them under acceleration, is already available on GM models in the US but is not yet available on the Commodore.

Sources speculate the starting point for the new engine?s power and torque outputs will be double those of the current V6. That would give the engine a 7.2-litre displacement, about 390 kW of power and 680 Nm of torque.

Experimental engines created by Holden have already undergone testing in prototype cars at the company?s Lang Lang test centre outside Melbourne.

The prototypes are running on GM?s reardrive Zeta architecture, developed in Australia for the Commodore and the coming PontiacG8. The chassis has a longer engine bay to fit the V12 and wider front and rear tracks.

GM has not confirmed whether it will base the upmarket Cadillac on the Zeta platform but, given the need to spread the cost of reardrive development over as many models as possible, such a move is logical.

Sources say the Chevrolet C6 Corvette, which matches the performance of German supercars at a bargain price, provides the template for the new super-Cadillac.

Lutz hopes that argument will carry the day when he meets GM?s bean counters for a budget to put the flagship Cadillac into production.

    i have to agree

the xr6 turbo is a great car, ford really picked up their game after the au series falcon. the cars are so detuned though it aint funny. they didn't want the cheaper xr6 turbo engines competing with the new force 6 and 8 engines (which by they way, aint a bad engines either, the 6 i think has the most torque of any aussie built engine).

i would definately have a ford xr6 turbo, but then again, after nissan, i am a ford man.

If I didn't do motorsport; I would have bought an F6 Typhoon. Its too easy to get stupid power out of them for very very little $$$.

I know of a smurf blue F6 in Perth that is running around with 410rwkw - cost of mods: $11k. Can't beat that!

Ok obviously i over estimated everyone on this forum

The ford might be cheap to buy, but bugger me, they don't like a full tank. They empty it as quick as quick. so high running costs.

I have an AU series 3 ute, with 167k on the clock, not only does it drive like a beaten up old truck, the response is like a stoned kid- slow and usually dribbles.

do you even know what FORD stands for?
It stands for " I Can't Spell Or Count So I think I Might Make A Crap Car, PS I'm Also Gay."

The BA/BF XR range has a mean front end, but the back doesn't compliment it.

Gee who would of thought a turbocharged car putting out 270kW from the factory would like fuel? :p

Ford engineer "Hmm, perhaps the wife needs to drive the kids around to the supermarket a fair whack faster. Lets turn a family car into an overpowered fuel sucking pile. After all, the quicker she can get to the supermarket, the quicker she can stand in the middle of the isle and chat to her equally stupid houswife friend and block the isle so normal people who don't enjoy shopping can't do it quickly."

Yes that rant is about fords, not housewives.

"lets also improvise on the brakes, we should put cheap south african made discs in there. they'll wobble like steddy eddy, but hell, no one will know."

    Stupid fords.
