hey all. glovebox has developed issues. bit of history. car is a 93 convertible. when bought a few years back, worked fine, always closed every time. lock also worked perfectly slowly over time it developed an issue where over larger bumps it would occasionly open itself. this has worsened to the point where it will no longer close at all. whats the fix for this? pictures of fix would be appreciated, because after a look at it myself i see nothing that jumps out at me.
Ok, take the face of the box of and see if it can be adjusted like the hood latch. If not you may have a weak spring. And I'm out of ideas after that.
I've done 2 that broke the plastic clip that holds the latch pin in firm. The pin was still there just not in the correct position. Zip tie or bit of wire worked well.
ripped mine apart last night, appears that have a similar break to this. my pin is long gone though....... i contacted rob260 yesterday to try and source a nbrand new assembly for me, otherwise i geuss ill be looking for good second hand. coz has on there website but i think lhd would be different to the rhd version. can anyone confirm or deny this?
Is the spring still there? If so I would chop a nail or something down to fit, but I'm dodgey like that
spring was in the bottom of the glovebox. but id prefer to replace rather than repair. i may not have a choice though......
cheers simmo. ill take it, even thoughit looks like a lhd hopefully ill be able to cannabilise the bits i need......
thanks dave, if it comes to that ill be in touch.......hopefully the one waztted is selling has the required bits.....
update for anyone reading this. fixed the issue with a new latch. used a brand new nissan latch designed for a lhd z. the latch is the same except for the metal arm coming out of it, you will need to swap the rhd arm into the new latch by knocking out a small pin and then reinstalling the rhd version from your original. importantly, when all the parts are swapped over, all of the new parts used are new plastic, and will hopefully last a long time. now works like a brand new glovebox.
