Hi all, I'm in mist of rebuilding my engine and im just wondering if anyone has ever used solid engjne mounts such as the Z1 six shooter engine mounts and their thoughts on then. I understand that there will be viabrations throughout the car but i just want to know how bad the viabrations are. Otherwise ill be looking intk the bde urathane mounts if i find that these are not the best option for a road car. Thanks George
The vibration level will be the sort of thing that will seem cool and bad ass driving around the block but on a decent run you will be wondering wtf you were thinking. Urethane mounts have had problems with melting on TT's if I recall so heaps hectic until you get heaps hectic and they melt. Still not sure what the problem with OEM mounts was other then they wear out after 20 years and are black and boring and about the same price as pearl necklace spec ones.
well I have the BDE engine mounts (big ones)which although with (minimal) rubber are pretty solid (engine doesn't move under accelaration) coupled with solid subframe bushes (rubber on diff) you get a slight vibration only at 2200- 2400 rpm then is smooth as butter .. this seems to be the resonance of the engine at its worst . .
I have thought about it as my engine moves significantly on the transbrake. Would it be bad for the engine to have no movement though?
Yeah i was looking into the bde ones but ive heard of the melting Issue. So i started looking into the Z1 solid 6 shooter engine mounts that have no rubber in them at all. But if the only resinstion is only around 2000-2400rpm then it should be sweet.
Full solid engine mounts will rattle your teeth out. Nothing wrong with oem unless you specifically need to run bde's for clearance issues.
Not really .. Having solid engine, gearbox ,diff and subframe may be a different story BDE still has rubber but stiff and as far as I'm concerned needed with a big horsepower motor ( be suprised how much an engine moves ). You get better power / torque transfer Heat is not a problem with the BDE design ,rubber part is on the chassis .
Im thinking it would increase shock loading on launch and increase potential for drive line damage on a drag strip surface, on the street less so as you would get a bit of tyre slip. Wrinklewall style tyres would soak up a bit of initial shock loading at the strip. Some sort of give would be a good thing but with a trans brake OEM might be getting out of its comfort zone unless you used some sort of engine brace. Im getting a stiffy !
i have full solid engine mounts and to be honest i noticed a bigger effect from putting in my tein super streets in terms of comfort. not an issue
The mounts I have are identical to the z1 mounts except for the holes. Will do a good deal on them if you want em
Have you used the motor mounts and how did they feel. I got nothing against the OEM ones its just that i can see myself having the engine out morr than a few tikes ans dont want to replace engine mounts everytime i pull the engine. And workinging for hsv a year ago ive noticed that the LS1 engine mounts are terrible. Replaced so many in low km cars i wouldnt even look at them as an option.
Have installed the UAS mounts in an NA Auto. They eliminated torque induced movement & no adverse vibrations were identified. No fitment issues either. http://www.uniqueautosports.com.au/Parts-Shop/uas-high-performance-engine-mounts-167.aspx
UAS want $280 a set? ($140 each) BDE make a short version like this except : The BDE vibration isolator is unique in that it 100% mechanically contains engine movement (both tension and compression forces) and does not rely upon the relatively low strength of the bushing material to keep unwanted engine movement contained http://bde-performance.com/mounts2.htm As far as stock mounts go ... you want to upgrade them on a high powered motor that actually gets used ! especially with launches .
no they are brand new in packets. the ls1 engine mounts are not much good either. If you look at a stock engine mount they have a hook that goes under the mount so it can't be over stretched by torque twist. The ls1 mounts dont have that and the drivers side ones fail all the time on v8's. They are underdone and worse than stock mounts.
I have all stock mounts and bushes and when in neutral I get the exact same thing! Slight vibration at 2200-2500 rpm annoys the shit out of me. I only noticed it after the turbo upgraded, anything to be concerned about?
