Anyone any further information? I am thinking about mounting it in the glovebox and running a 4 port usb adapter along side with some 32gb storage usb's for the OS/music etc. It will run a hdmi port to a 7" lcd screen built in double din fascia and running a win 7 dumbed down OS with centrafuse /w navigation. --does anyone know if the pi has a 12v DC adapter? -edit nevermind, it can run on a 12v micro usb charger --Can the Pi PSU automatically detect the acc switch and come out of hibernation and similar with turning off car - auto hibernation ?? ---and is this possible?
just realised windows does not support ARM processors.... you can however run a VNC to windows via linux but thats too much processing power. are the following programs linux friendly? -ecu talk -nissan datascan -centra fuse EDIT: nice little x86 box find http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/1839
Why not just do something like this? http://www.pioneer.com.au/au/products/22/121/61/DEH-8450BT/page.html Has Bluetooth and mic so can make phone calls from pocket. Has rear USB input so can store a large hard drive under dash. RCA outputs. No 7in screen but saves reinventing the wheel. Unless its the journey not the destination Thought about the raspberry pi myself. But would be a lot of work. Was also thinking maybe getting hold of a newish 370z mmc and retro fitting it would include navigation n stuff then. Will see what the minister for finance and enjoyment (wife) lets me do
umm how is this going to help me finding a display that can show me gauges? its just a normal head unit. thats like going from a stone wheel to a rock pebble
I'm in the same boat frysie, lookin to upgrade the PFC in my car to standalone when I re tune it, being as most don't have a hand controller I was lookin to set a car pc up and run the ECU interface etc on a double din touchscreen to have all the gauges/mapping etc displayed instead of plugging in a laptop all the time
Sorry didn't realise you wanted more than a media centre If you get this up and running I'd be interested in seeing how you did it Edit! Something like this. But with pretty gauges!! http://youtu.be/oZLJ_ZY718Y
when i posted up the parts to do this i got laughed off stage get a double din stereo with rca video in, a vga to rca adapter cable and one of these: http://www.neoboxpc.com/en/boxpc-ultra-mini-pc/ebox-3350mx-ap-p-203.html that pc is 12v, auto powered and windows friendly. voi la, car pc.
i've ordered all my parts necessary and will be custom making my box with perspex, there should be enough room to hide it behind the console. running a DSATX for the 12v power source with a 7" lcd touchscreen with anti-glare matting, external gps antenna (small dome), reversing camera (will replace hatch lock); and a front dash cam (logitech). All run through centrafuse 4.0
power source. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1312527055/raspberry-pi-car-power-supply-ignition-switch to get 5 volt power just use a power transistor. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ZV1632 one leg you ground, one leg goes to 12v and one leg outputs 5v. thats how i would get my 5v power supply. and yes it runs linux which is pretty open source and you can do whatever you want with it. plenty of carpc's going around and you can just copy peoples software setup. i was going to go carpc but i couldnt be bothered and settled for a audison bitone (was going carpc for audio not engine management)
hey mate just found this http://hackaday.com/2013/09/30/using-a-raspberry-pi-to-give-your-car-more-features/
Just do it once and be sure it works. Give Pexy a ring. He used to sell an in car PC. Bonez had one. Worked great. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=238477&highlight=computer
If anyone is interested I have this still boxed up, haven't gotten around to installing it. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315493
Probably. Looks pretty complete tho. I'm after something I can double up as an aftermarket gauge screen. Pure readout. Something stealth I can hide away at the click of a button. Could prob hack a standard double din and wire in something like the zada tech thing. ( rip off of the gtr gauges ) Not sure yet still thinking.
