so I cleaned my car today and before that it was running perfect. when I started it up all was well until I started driving it, as soon as clutch is fully disengaged and driving in gear I have this whirring noise coming from the engine?what's worse is that the climate control screen turns off when driving and turns back in while in idle. clutch fan seems to be louder aswell and seems to match my revving, eg as I rev up the fan gets louder? really stumped here, help me!
**update** so I had another try, and when I'm in nuetral idle, if I rev the engine the climate control screen turns off, then when revs return to idle, it turns back on.
Geez you must really got stuck into the bay with the pressure washer!!! Thats a really bad idea to start with if anyone else goes to do the same.....use a rag...it cant be that filthy! Its not an old tractor that has no electrical sensors and such! Anyway....you have got water in your relay box most likely...what you thought was a quick wash is now a big job as you will need to go throughout all your electrical boxes and plugs and dry them all out..
that's the thing! I didn't touch the engine bay itself haha, sorry I wasn't clear about what I said, but I just washed the outside of the car lol, I wouldn't spray into the engine bay EVER. that's why I'm stumped.
Oh ok, hmmm bit if a pickle! Elec faults are very hard to sort out... I would hope you get a member whom had a similar issue... I'm out of ideas now sorry. Worst situation is you will have to get an auto elect to fault find.
Alternator related. Loose belt or shagged. When you rev the motor it needs more electrical power for the extra spark fuel e.c.t so it will show up alternator / battery problems. Cheers Dave
I'd have a closer look for that "whirring" noise. Will it do it if you have the bonnet up and rev the engine? Other than that I'd try to dry it out. Use compressed air if you have it and maybe take it for a good drive to get some real heat into the engine bay. Get some electrical connection cleaner/solvent and give as many electrical contacts a spray as you can find. Very strange to happen with a simple car wash, could it just be a coincidence that it occurred at teh same time?
Makes sense, the whirring noise associated with the engine revs is probably slipping belt or the alternator itself.
Twin Terror! I think you've got it right on, because a month or so ago, it started to have a light whirring noise when ever I deppressed the brake pedal. so I'm guessing it's the alternator, along with turning on lights same thing happens, the whirring noise starts up again. how much would I be looking at for total cost? DIY able or better to take it to a mechanic?
This is definitely a DIY job... Simple tool kit... And buy you self a brand new Alt, don't stuff around with second hand or reco'd jobs. Alternator > http://www.conceptzperformance.com/...Type=NIS300&UID=20130411164559149.135.147.109 You will need to remove the underside tray to gain easy access to all the bolts and nuts. If you havnt or don't think the belts have been swapped out in a while, but a set of belts and A/C idler too from COZ.

If it's a crook Alternator, the chances are that it has some internal issue that is causing the "whirring" sound. Either way, it is probably not recharging your battery(or supplying enough current to run the engine by itself). This will lead to a flat battery sooner, rather than later(and all the drama that ensues when you can't drive back home). DON'T RISK IT!!!!:zlove:
