Yikes. I know the VG is known as a bit of a boat anchor, but that flywheel looks like it has actually spent time on the bottom of the ocean.

    Also, learn 2 measure.

Bit of corrosion never hurt anything. Put a clutch on it and a bellhousing around it and whats to see?

    1. Pure steel rusts very easily. Wash it and it will rust. Albeit only very fine surface rust.

    2. I only posted this to prove flywheel is not 240 or 250mm! Its a bit hard to photograph and measure properly at the same time.

    1. Why are you using water to wash your flywheel!!

    2. The FSM measurements refer to the diameter of the friction disc, which is 240mm for NA and 250mm for TT. I just measured an NA flywheel, and the total diameter (not including the ring gear) is 295mm.

Hi, I wasn't washing the flywheel per say. Just trying to make a point, pure grade steel can form surface rust very easily. However I was washing under the car with the gearbox out, and got water on the flywheel. It already had a bit of surface rust. But I was flushing out the Daddy Longlegs and Redbacks. I personally did not cause all the rust you see. Actually I did use a bit of rust converter on it whilst repairing the battery tray. But the surface rust quickly reappeared with only a single exposure to water. Also I am rust treating and repainting the under floor whilst I am changing the clutch. Yes friction plates are 240 & 250mm. Not the flywheel. As originally posted here. BTW I have plenty other photographs of measurements. This measurement I was actually trying measure the OD of ring gear. So whatever you reckon mate! Who you trying to help anyway???
