Hi all, What is the easiest way to check if my car has ABS? Its a 2 seater NA 1990 jspec Thanks for your help in advance
Have a look at the brake master cylinder in the engine bay. If it has 2 hardlines running from it you have ABS, if it has 3 hardlines running from it you don't have ABS.
Cheers mate, thanks. Looks like I have ABS - which is good for the car, but bad for replacement hub assembly I found
Wheel bearing has noise. Im pressed for time, so rather than buy a new one and pressing it in, wanting to buy an entire hub assembly and bolt it on. Just spoke to wreckers though, he said the 2 versus 3 outlets on the master may be inaccurate cus there's a few different master cylinder types. Gonna take the wheel off and look for an electrical wire to the assembly
There are several different master types but from what I have found on the z32 every non-abs car has 3 outlets and every abs car has 2. If you want to be certain pop the trim piece off behind the drivers seat, there will be an abs actuator there if it has abs. Also, there should be an abs light on the dash that illuminates for a second every time you turn the car on. I'm assuming front wheel bearing since it differs between abs and non abs, you can also see a geared wheel speed sensor if it has abs. End of the day only few of the very first na's didn't have abs, after that it became standard until around 96-97. It's very unlikely you have no abs.
Interesting cus i just took of the wheel and couldn't find any electrical signal wires to the corner assembly. When i turn the car on though ANTI-LOCK light is displayed. When i take off the flap behind the drivers seat i see what could be brake hydraulic lines going into something
You should have a big sticker on your brake booster that says ABS. Mine is a 92 without ABS. Dean, his is a 2 seater so not sure where the ABS unit would be located as i dont have one Abraham
Does you car have an 'ANTI-LOCK' light illuminated when your keys are in ignition? Cant see any ABS stickers
Cant remember lol ill msg you later when i get to my car after work. I can have a look at it when you come past next time if its before the roady Abraham
What time you finish? Gotta go buy the thing and install before tomorrow 8am Might just go take a chance. Anything else i can look for on the wheel? Is the wire normally very visible?
Why not just buy a new bearing, remove the hub and get a shop to fit the new one, they should easily be able to do that today.
I wont be home till atleast 11pm tonite, sorry. Anybody know where the abs pump is located in a 2+0? I believe they are located behind the drivers seat in a panel? Maybe have a look & see if it has abs or not. If you dont have the abs sticker & cant find the pump, then most likely its got no abs Abraham
Behind the drivers seat under the 'hump' (in front of the shock tower). On mine there is a small velcro'd access panel on the panel directly behind the seat. Taking that off you can see the brake lines coming in for the ABS motor. Either that or take the 'hump' off which just clips in and should be easy to remove (although I think it's covered in sound proofing). If that cavity is empty then no ABS. AB
Thanks guys. Ended up buying a new bearing from Nissan for $80 bucks. Sorry my power went out so couldn't respond earlier. Lets hope it costs less than $100 for the mechanic to fit it (I dont have a press)
