What is this white thingy? is this the key code??? i noticed not all barrels in google images have it. (no this is not my ignition barrel, but i have the same white thingy).Or is this for the illumination ? I went to the locksmith today and my key only goes in one way which he said was wrong so i need my code to get it right.
I thought the key code was a LETTER followed by 4 NUMBERS. eg. A8008. for a series 1, don't know if it was changed later.
My series 1 key code is a letter followed by 4 digits. I took my key to a locksmith and he was able to work out the code from the key. I have had a couple of keys cut since using the code. I good locksmith should be able to work out which side of your key is correct and then work out the key code.
key if it helps I have a 89 tt the key blank is a Silka dat15dp and both sides are the same cut, I turned the key upside down and cut it the same (both sides) it works fine, the code is the d4digit number at the base of the key where the plastic ends Linton
so dont want to pull that out, if my key opens all including hatch, should i be fine just taking my hatch barrel to them to cut and give me a code?
Key code stamped on your key? Do you use that key everyday or do you have a duplicate without the code stamped on it? :br: making it easy?
I had the issue of no codes being found on any lock barrel. I took my existing key to a locksmith and just by looking at it he worked out the code. He then cut from the code and tested the key before he charged me for it. Any good locksmith should be able to do this for you
Whats the story with the valet keys ? I have it on the Red Z which starts the engine but not open the doors . dont have a black key ..alarm unlocks the doors If I get a key cut from the boot lock will this also start my engine?
Good advice there. Don't let them rip your door apart to get to the lock, only to realise that they don't know how and then drop screws down the gap. Hatch lock, easy to pull out and cut keys from.
Correct, both keys are cut to the same code however the slots in the red valet key prevent it from going into the glovebox lock. A blank red valet key will not push into the glovebox lock but a blank black owner key will. An owner key cut from a valet key would work in the glovebox.
You can see the different slots in this photo. The red key has a thin raised section in the middle and the black has a thick section.
Cut from the lock should be ok. I've had keys cut from the valet key onto black blanks, and also from the 4 digit code on the valet key onto black blanks and neither have worked. Don't know why...
