Just found out to my surprise there were 2 seater options for 280zx and 300zx (z31)?? I've never seen these here in Australia before.. I've seen plenty of 240/260/z32 2 seaters... Were they really not that popular here?
we only got 4 seater versions on of the s130 (280zx) the 2 seater version is called a 280z (no x) we also only got 4 seater versions of the z31 in aus. both versions were available in both japan and the us in 2 or 4 seater variation.
Not offered. I've seen a 2 seater Z31, but only 1. The 2 seater 280's were common in the states I believe. Looked WAAAAAYYYY better than the 2+2 we got.
Was a 2-seater Z31 out my way. Local metal fabricator had it parked up in a shipping container and moved it from workshop to workshop. No idea what happened to it
Wow I like the look of the 2 seater version of 280z.. I always thought it looked a bit ugly lengthened out for 2+2
Thats not quite correct. In america they had an S30 chassis with an L28 engine from 1975 - 1978 which was called a 280Z. US market got 280ZX 2 seaters (these were offered in L28ET 2.8L turbo variant) and in Japan it was called Fairlady 280Z-L (1978 : HS130). As stated, all S130 and Z31 series 2 seaters in Australia are imports.
i can confirm that z31 2 seaters do exist in aus i will post a pic of one that is tucked away in my back yard soon to be resto
there will be a few 2 seater z31's in australia, as grey imports brought from japan...... just not "common' as z31's sold in australia brand new through nissan were all 4 seaters
They also had them in NZ - I had #1 of 26 built for the NZ market. IMO, the back is too long and I had to replace the petrol tank in it once due to cutting it open on a driveway!
We had a 280Z 2 seater competing at the NDSOC Nissan vs Ford 'khana at DECA recently ... couple of pics below. Definately grey import only, this one has been put on 'historic' plates.
