Just curious as to how many forum members actually use and run turbo timers in their zeds.

To help me think about whether I need one :p

I have one installed, but normally try to take it easy on the last couple of kms of driving rather than rely on the timer when turning the car off. As a rule I only let the timer do its job if the car has been boosting heaps (which is not often) - or if I am being too lazy to hit the off button. (which is more often)

Pfft, don't need one. Cool the car down properly and you won't have any hassles. Spend the money on bigger turbos :p Or beer. Or strippers.

i find turbo timers useless like everyone says. take it easy towards the end.

other thing that helps is running synthetic oil.

im a installer and i install these for a living. and i dont think they do anything.

they are as useful as a BOV

I run one - although I also prefer to just take it easy for the last few Kms - although I also use it as its very useful to leave the car running while opening/closing the garage door without the keys in it :p
(yes its wired to shut down if the handbrake is dropped or it picks up a reading on the speed sensor)

yeah sounds pretty pointless to me, as I already let the car warm down for 20-30 seconds after I've parked :p

    Thanks guys

There is one in my car but I usually hit the kill switch when I switch off the car. It is hard to think of a scenario where you would really need a turbo timer.

They are also illegal. ADR 25 specifies that the engine must be switched off when the ignition key is in the off position or removed.

I run one. I like it cause all the good driving is within a few kays of my house so bugger taking it easy.

I have one but it is usually off, but use it occasionally, but I also sometimes just sit there for a minute or two idling, depending.

I use it for warm up also if i have just left the house and stop at servo to check tyres or go buy soemthing.

I have one as part of my alarm system (not installed yet)

so my engine will run for a minute after i take out the key. I think i also need this setup so that i can engage the remote engine start if i want to turn the car on when i'm not in it...

turbo timers are good so that you can make sure all the oil is out of the turbos from what i've heard??? but apart from that, its more just the wank factor because its pretty cool to act all cool standing next to your ride when you get out and having it still running as your walking away, then it will just shut itslef down when its ready... same goes for remote start. I can stand at the top of the stairs at uni and start my car to freak out all the kids standing near it having a smoke.. then i casually walk out to a pre warmed car, hop in a drive away all cool like....

its an accessory, but not a necessity (<see what i did there?)

I appreciate your candor there Mr Anti,

but fact of the matter is, I already have a fan base at uni that can't wait for me to get waynoz back on the road... and most people who would think that way, i already think are assholes so i don't talk to them...

    I do's what I likes, and I Likes what I Do's....

My car came with one and its staying in .

Its actually handy when you are in a hurry not having to wait for the cool down.

I use to have it with the alarm too.

    up to you

It's really personal preference whether you want one or not ;), just remember that if parked on a hill you cant leave the car in gear and have to rely solely on the hand brake to hold. I had one on my zed and used it when ever I went to work in it, only because the access road to the site I work on is about 1-2 ks long and dead straight, lovely for a spirrited run to 200 or so.

You have a stripper built into your alarm? That cant be ADR approved...

So much hate on Turbo Timers...

I've been running one for years. Always set to 2:30. I don't care to take it easy towards the end, nor do I always have the time to just sit there for a minute just staring at the Cluster. The service manual also tells you to leave it on for a short while before switching off after a spirited run. And thats with stock turbos and stock boost... not many of us here run stock turbos or stock boost... bigger turbos and more boost = more heat.

It wasn't installed to be 'cool', it was installed as a precaution. It does it's job and that's all I ask of it. For $50 and half an hour to install that seems fairly reasonable to me and doesn't warrant all the hate on them.

I'm also not against remote start either. ONLY if used for a functional purpose. My reason for contemplating one, was I often had to get up at 4am throughout the year. It would have been nice to shuffle over to the window, start the car (having set the heater on the night before and left in neutral) while I'm getting dressed, then jump into a cozy Zed and make the hour drive to work. Now that I don't drive to work anymore, the idea was shelved. Don't see the point. Simple.
