Hey guys. I have a 93 zx. 2+2, targa, silver, 112,000ks. It's nothing special. Iv had it for about a year now. Original cost was 4000. Since then I replaced the mags with v35 skyline mags as the ones that came on it were buckled and leaked air. 535$ posted and came with 90% tread! Next it got a good service with semi synthetic oil, all fluids replaced and replaced all filters minus the air filter. 265$ Next I forked out 1750 for a custom built cat back exhaust in full stainless nice and thick n all very well tig welded! Sounds perfect! Worth every dollar! I think we went with 2 1/4 inch so it would all fit in nice n deep. It had tein hr Coilovers but the top mounts were shot. The hr's were a bit stiff for my liking too. Picked up a set of um... Can't remember the brand... Isc or something?!? Fully adjustable! Perfect for what I wanted! They were 700 second hand from a forum member. Also picked up a set of cream leather seats from him too. Not installed as doesn't go with the rest of the interior. Wore the tyres out so new set of khumo tyres! 235/45 17s on the rear and 225/45 17s on the front so they don't scrub
Ok decided to post that and start a new page so I didn't accidentally delete it and have to write it all again! So the bad... Paint is rediculas! Has had a respray and I recon a child could do a better job! It's as rough as sand paper and I don't think they even used primer so it's pealing in sections. Only a couple of dents. Very minor. Rear hatch seems to leak and I'm getting some minor surface rust in the wheel well. Only other rust is where the seam of the front left strut and engine guard meet. Has split and needs welding. I assume it's because the hr coils were so stiff! Interior is showing it's age. All electricals work but things like the stereo surround and console are cracked and barely held in! Does the job I guess! Engine is not the original engine as iv found out later when I checked the engine number on the rego. Doesn't match! So I have no idea of the condition of the engine. Runs and has the power it should, starts every time etc but does use a bit of oil and when it starts up, before the oil pressure settles it has a top end tapping noise. Biggest problem iv been having with it is a little strange to me. I think it's a combination of thing but between 2500 rpm and 3000rpm if I'm not accelerating it has a bit of a missfire.... Still working it out... It's definatly running rich as it coughs and Splutters a bit if I'm engine bracking. But I'm told they were tuned to run rich from stock...
Ok so now before you jump to and conclusions that I'm a typical p plater... Lol I just lost my license for turning left at a no left turn between 8-9 weekdays!!! I am new to the city and was heading to work n didn't even see the sighn. Anyways loss of license for 6 months!!! So now the plan is to back her into the Shed and get the engine running perfect! Not looking to increase power or anything just want to make it stronger and reliable! Hence the thread title ! Now iv never pulled apart a vg30de! Actually japanease engines seem very over complicated to me lol. I'd say I'm reasonably mechanically minded as iv rebuilt plenty of 202s 308s few vn buicks etc but they are all very simple compared to a vg30! This is where you guys can help! Where do I start?!? How do I start?!? I'm in Adelaide so if anyone wants to come give me a hand feel free
And now for a few pics When I first got it Sound system which Came with it then blew up so I replaced with the standard seats With the new mags The seats The Coilovers Exhaust tips enjoy
Looks like it's coming a long way from when you got it!! Also what's the speaker box behind the front seats, from the outside it looks like a 4 seater, has it had the rear seat removed? -Mikey
Yea when I got it the rear seat was removed but the amp stopped working n when I went to replace it I found it was a dodgy job so I just pulled it all out!
Lol I went and brought two subs, rewired it all from scratch n it worked fine but once you start the car you get alot of alternator feedback coming through the sub! Sounded horrible! Pulled it all out! I enjoy the sound of the twin exhaust puring anyways! N a nice crackle as I downshift for a corner, then the scream as I pull out onto the highway! Such a lovely sound!
The previous owner had it registered as a two seater when he took em out. I reregistered it as a four when I pit em back in. That's when I found out about the engine numbers being wrong! Ended up having to get a full inspection done!
She is in the shed and compression test will be done Sunday before I decide if I'm rebuilding and cleaning the top end or just swapping with a new one I'm looking for around 180 psi ideally for a na yea?
180 is very healthy, yeah. Had that on my old NA. Cool wheels dude. Do you still have them? Or are they the ones on eBay right now? The ones in the pictures posted at the top.
Still have the original mags. Same as on eBay! Did notice them lol. Mine need a good repair job! They are two piece so it's doable. They are all buckled so had steering vibration and tyres leaked air. V35 skyline mags cost me less then a set of tyres so worked out better!
You got them at a good price with the rubber, nice buy! I may be interested in the Modena's, as a little side project. Depends what's wrong with them - a set with damaged barrels could be just what I'm after.
Pm replied too postage is gonna be your biggest cost. Apart from the repairs. You can have them for like 100 for the set. Plus postage obviously. No hurry either lol they ain't going anywhere.
Just a quick update! Plenum is ready to be removed! Did the compression test on the number one cylinder n it comes up at 90! Tried a few times! Will do the others when the plennum is off n it's easier! This pic is where it's at! This is a problem I'm still yet to figure out what to do with! :s
that doesn't happen from too hard springs dude. crack in the fender top as well there I see? crash damage
Must have been a minor crash that wasn't reported as I had the chassis numbers checked and the history came back clean.
