That sucks.. the things this car has gone thro and still lived on.. This car started after going under water!

Would suggested you do the rebuild. You have a daily car, might as well fix the zed properly :)

    My thoughts

Drop a 2nd hander in with your bits on to get you back on the road asap as you were with a minimal of fuss.
Then depending on the damage, use your current engine for the big hp rebuild,
Taking your time to do it properly as money permits, collect the bits, rods, pistons, bearings, valves, cams, turbos etc
When you have all the parts, get it machined to suit and have the time of your life putting it all back together.
Then it's just a matter of swapping them over, selling your old motor to recoup some of the expense.
Did i mention, been there done that.:)

If it was me, id buy a second hand motor, strip the heads , have them checked, do a metal head gasket to lower compression a touch, ARP head studs and swap all your goodies onto it.

You can get an idea of how the bores look while the heads are off and most of the stripping needs to be done for turbo swap, changing all hoses and timing belt anyway

Sorry to hear Benny :( Sounds very similar to what happened to Cara's engine after we did the plenum pull. Snapped locating pin upon startup after re-assembly. Top end stopped, bottom end kept going :(

I have 3 week off coming up if you want a hand to swap engines out/in ;)

Oh no..horrible news :(...sorry to hear Ben..
Can't believe something gave way with your zed since its been through everything! Floods, towing, many kms..

Well I guess you just gotta look on the bright side..that your Monster Rebuild just came a little earlier then expected..

Shouldn't those green ones have $100 printed all over them?

I had one... once... before I had a Zed...

I agree with Ron, drop in a good runner with your bits. Build another as time/money permits, will also give you time to accumulate some goodies which may be out of reach if you're on a time crunch to get her going quickly.

Sad news Bro but you can always look on the brighter side that something better will come out of this.

Looks like the Surf is going to come into full commission sooner than later hey :)

You could just use the surf as your daily for a few months and build up a nice engine? You already have injectors and turbos/manifolds etc so most of the cost is already taken care of?

Just need a rebuild kit, some forged parts and some labour for assembly and porting and you're good! Really you're not gonna get too much more power out of your hiflowed turbos, just reliability of forged parts and a bit better flow from a light port?

If you're thinking of going bigger turbos though then its a bit different haha!

As a wise man once said, just my $0.02 AUD worth.

^^ I think this will be my route ^^ :zlove:

    ...and
well, this may be the case yet. I'll work over some sums and if i can handle not driving her for a few months, then i might use this opportunity to go all out and just do everything. Turbos, cams, porting, forging, etc.

While the US dollar is good im getting forged pistons for mine, CP delivered for around 800.

I cant help but think we are at the max of these turbos already though Ben, so it will be more for durability with mine, maybe i could ring another 20-30hp with more tuning

    Damn Benny!!

But VG awsomeness will surely follow :br:
I think Wizard is on the money.
Gets u back on the road ASAP, then you have your base for the big rebuild.
Also another excuse for a Dalby engine pull/push if Karl has the time and motivation :p

Unfortunate Benny... hope I don't see posts with '320kw pops your motor'.

If you can put up with a daily for a few months just pull the engine once instead of putting in another motor to then pull it again.
