can't find a compliance plate in the Z anywhere, vin isn't stamped on the struts either. Was told by previous owner that nissan imported it back in 1990.. is it possible?
On my old aus spec the VIN was stamped right at the back on the firewall behind the wiring loom, in some funky cartoony font (which was probably the bomb back in 1990 ).
Highly doubt it, my old jspec NA did not have any compliance plates fitted either... It also had seatbelts on te doors and a few other things were not changed for oz compliance.
If you ask the right people, yes Nissan did but they were never sold at the dealership. Only a handful of the Series 1. Everyone else will say this is BS and that's fine. They are rare and basically unheard of. BUT there is such a thing as an 'aus-delivered' TT.
While shopping for a 300zx in Tweed Heads one of the car dealers there told me that he used to work for nissan back when our cars were brand new, and that his dealership actually raced 3 Zeds. However they weren't allowed to race the adm's because of the targa roofs so they (Nissan australia I'm assuming) imported 3 hardtop TT's (from memory atleast one of them was black). Whether they were complied for promotional purposes or not complied just for racing I'm not too sure.
Maybe, at least I heard of one. Back in 1997 a Melbourne barrister got Nissan to import a new 2+2 TT manual for him, black with leather trim. I learned about the car when it was advertised three or four years ago - genuine 14,000 klm, always garaged and still smelled of the leather. He was asking $29,000. I thought about the car for maybe a month and I started up a thread looking for advice. Finally I decided "What the hell - let's buy it!". I rang him up to offer $25,000 to find he had sold it that very morning to someone else - for $25,000. Ah well. The quick and the pedestrian. It is a pretty unique car, a virtually new 97 TT manual. Someone down there south of the border must have heard about it or seen it around somewhere.
There was a black '97 model up for sale on here a while ago, pretty sure it came from melbourne too, had low km's, black not sure if it had a leather interior though... the member ATM rings a bell?
I wonder if vehicle history search would go that far back and detail odometer and new car registration ? But I guess engine information would be fudged.
kiz ... all very good but who are the right people .... and who were the people there .. ??? ... it is fine making theses statements but if you have the evidence/details then let us have them ... it would be interesting to know the facts ....
