who has run coilovers with a set of drag radials on the rear and what was your traction like? Also what spring rates are you running? I am really tempted to put coilovers on the car with around a 8/6 spring (softer if possible but hard to find) as i love the adjust-ability but dont want to make the car totally useless for the drags. I currently have stock standard shocks & springs and cant get traction on take off due to the torque converter. (285 bridgestone potenza RE050A) I have read that if setup properly coilovers can be good so i need convincing. I know i could put some on and sell them if it doesn't work but i'd rather not. What other components could I look at to increase straight line traction?
Adjustable suspension arms to get a good alignment. And coilovers will definitely help by reducing squat and consequent alignment changes on takeoff. Have a play with spring preload, damper settings, etc and see if your time improves.
for drags u want some squat !!! when i was running my cusco type S coilys . i was bagging the tyres out half way up the track !!! put my hks springs and shocks back in and there just a tad softer... works a treat... hit the gas and the tyres just grip
What HE said. Rear end squat on launch = weight transfer to the rear (hopefully) = traction. Make it all too soft and tramping and other horrors can happen. Its FWD's that you stiffen up in the rear to reduce squatting and weight transfer toward the rear on launch. L8r E
ye of course a bit of squat is good. too much and your alignment is too far off for the tires to do their job right. what side profile do you have on the 285s?
yes but you can fix this easily by running slightly lower tyre pressures and putting more tyre on the track. As far as tyre wall height goes, you dont want to be running 18" rims with small side walls because you get too much power transfer straight to the tread causing it to loose traction. In my opinion ( and remember this is my opinion only ) you should be running 16" rears down the drag strip and play with your tyre pressures. Andy
the simplist solution would be to remove the new v8 so you dont have so much torque......but you probly arent gonna be so keen on that idea.........lol
like michandy said you dont want 18/19s on 285s. go smaller 17s or something. you never see race cars with rubber band tires on huge rims for good reason
yeah mine are 30 profile on the back and the side walls are really stiff. gonna get a set of BFG TA or similar for the stock rims haha no way man i've tasted the forbidden fruit now, aint no going back. - anyone else got experience running coilovers at the drags with drag radials and were you able to pull of a decent launch ?
I have the Tein Flex and have run them with drag radials. They work best set to about 3/4 hard, have launched in the 1.6 range for the 60ft times with this setting. Cheapest improvement for me came from fitting subframe spacers, these reduced axle tramp dramatically.
I know someone that ran positive camber on the rear (IRS) so when launched the wheels would flatten out instead of running on the inner tread of the tire to give more traction.
