hey all i am soon to be getting my car tinted 20%. i just want to know can you tint the targa glass.
35% is the darkest legal. You would barely be able to see out of 5%. Not sure about the tinting the targa's, those little dots might stuff it up.
i dont no if its true or not but i remember somebody asking once a while ago and i dont think you can tint the targa because of something to do with what type of glass it is and if you leave your car out in the sun when it heats up and expands then cools down and shrinks, it might crack coz of the tint..... but dont take my word for it
Mine was tinted today, didn't do the targa's they have covers Done with 3m black cs20 film, looks amazing.
with tinting targas its like tinting your windscreen.. you doing do it because of what it is made out of... from memory (talking to a few tinters) there is two layers of glass and something in between them to hold them together. with window tint, the heat goes through the glass and the tint reflects the heat back out. since its double layer heats up alot more and traps in alot of heat (between the 2nd layer of glass and tint) this could lead to cracking when it cools down or if it get extremely hot (as one sheet of glass will expand more then the other one.) something along those lines... i was busy installing an alarm when he was talking to me about it
Don't you mean Zexual? :zlove: On that topic, when I went to get the windows in my zed tinted both the tinters I got to quote the job said they wouldn't do the targas because of their exposure to the sun especially for be being in cq where they would be exposed to extreme heat in summer, they can expand and contract at different rates to the tint which can cause them to shatter. One of the tinters actually learnt this the hard way after apparently having a falcon with a sunroof come back after it had cracked/shattered only a few weeks beforehand. I didn't want to risk it so I just use the blockout shades. They do their job perfectly fine for me :zlove:
Totally agree with posts about this, regarding the targas cracking or even shattering. It may not happen, but to be honest a real chance in our climate it will. The question you should ask is, are you doing it to cut down the heat coming in? If so, you could always do what has been suggested previously, get one of those shades that go across the windscreen, the ones that are silver on one side and a colour on the other... I have a red zed and so I got a red one. Cut it into two sections, and fit them between the targa shade and the targa. If you are doing it just for appearance, then you need to decide whether it is worth the risk, but I do agree it would look good.
