Thanks also to Vaughan (yellow300zx) for the new wheels. Now I had better freshen up the calipers to suit. Only temporarily though, big brake kit follows :).

Looks at Oni :D mine have been requested for ages! But I have had other things to worry about (like keeping a motor going) and I haven't reminded him at all! ;)

the sticker from man??? Looks sweet! Love it! :D
I'd like to have "Like a Dragon" in Kanji.

I got the artwork from kanji@beautifuljapan.biz. They found the appropriate kanji and sent it over in a high def PDF file. It cost me Y1500.

The stickers were made by Steve@bodymold.com.au (a contact of Chili's) who made them for me from the PDF in 24 hours. $33.00 for 4 sets.

    Great result. V happy. :)

How can you be sure of the translation?
In conversation with a chinese friend of mine, She was saying that the translation for the car "BMW" is "perfect Horse"

Hope yours does not say something equally cryptic :)

    What a wierd post.

I am quite comfortable that resident Japanese kanji experts can identify the appropriate characters for the ordinary words "angry" and "bear". With all due respect to your Chinese friend, "BMW" is not a word at all so how could it be translated into any language that doesn't use the English alphabet - say cyrillic for example?

I am not surprised an attempt to make it work ended up in a silly result. What is more obscure is why anyone would want to translate a German car brand into kanji? That's as dumb as trying to translate the word "NISSAN" into Urdu.

Yeah, not sure how it works, but that's what it translates to. Not surprising that there is no direct translation for the letters however... for example, there is no equivalent to the letter 'V' in their vocabulary, likewise for many other sounds i presume, as chinese is a tonal language, using pitch to distinguish between words. English however only uses tone/pitch sparingly, such as identifying the '?' in a statement or question (the change in pitch you add to the end of a question).

Hence my confusion. Japanese is similar to Chinese in that the intonation of a word can change its meaning. I recall "I go", "We go" and "They go" all use the same word, but vary in intonation. You certainly can't translate individual letters, intonation or inflexion in a static character. I am sure their written language sorts it out somehow, maybe only by context.

The extremely courteous Japanese lady I dealt with was very confused by my nickname of "angrybear"; I suspect she was thinking I must be some ultra aggro personality, but she was much too polite to say other than it was "very unusual". How Japanese! As many know, angrybear is simply an anagram of my name and when I explained she seemed very pleased to hear that.

When you have a written language based on pictograms such as kanji, there is no such concept as an anagram and unsurprisingly there is no Japanese word for anagram.

the "perfect horse" would be pronounced 'bo-maa' in cantonese, the 'translation' for that would come from the pronounciation of BM from BMW, and "perfect horse" would just sound nice as a car, rather than literally translating to "bavarian motor works", which would be a stupid long name.

plenty of other brands are similarly translated...

and that does say "angry bear". but the font can be cooler...sorta like an asian times new roman at the moment, im happy to help get some translated words and charactors if anyone likes, takes 2 minutes really.

The font looks basic and simple but I think it looks great!
It's not too fancy or too standing out, kinda meshes in nicely.
    If that makes sense.. lol

    @ angrybear

Did you put it on both sides? Or just the one??
You gonna put any more stickers anywhere else??
Like maybe the top back window?

I understand there are a number of different fonts that could be used, and there are lots of examples on the internet, but they are too small to scale up.

I was after a 80mm square image in a sharp resolution, so my choices were limited to what my provider could produce. Very happy with the result. I like the teardrop shapes on the accent points, compared to the clipped style of say Romanji type characters.

I have put the stickers on both sides and I have two sets to keep as spares.
