I have a 5 Speed TT.. Im putting in a NA Subframe. By my reckoning I need a 5 Speed NA Sender with a NA Pinion gear (Red). or do I need a 5 Speed TT Sender with an NA Pinion Gear (Red) I bought one from the forum recently which was advertised as a 5 Speed NA Sender. But its got a Blue Pinion Gear which I expect is a TT Sender. How can I tell the difference between senders if you remove the Pinion Gear ? There are different part numbers but no identifiable markings on them HELP
Both NA and TT nspeed sensors are the same. Only difference between the 2 is the TT has an 18 tooth pinion, NA has a 20 tooth pinion. You need to use the 20 tooth with an NA diff.
Is there any difference in the outside diameter of the gears? Or is there any difference in offset of the gear shafts?
Outside diameter and offsets are the same. The ratio change is achieved by changing the number of teeth, but to achieve this a wider tooth pitch is used an the 18 tooth pinion so it still has proper engagement, but reduces the ratio by 10% which coincides with the diff ratio change. It is a bit hard to visualize how it is done, looking at 2 side by side and it is quite clear.
Any reason Z1 sells the senders minus pinion with different nissan part numbers if they are the same ? Kinda makes me wonder why people target NA sender specifically rather than just buying a pinion gear from Coz for their existing sender unit.
Might be best just to ask them, might be cause Nissan charges more so they pass on the charge accordingly, wouldn't be the 1st time a car manufacturer has done this
Ok, Nissan part numbers TT speed sensor assembly is 32743-30P18. NA speed sensor assembly is 32743-30P20. Note the only difference between the part numbers identifies the tooth count. No idea why they are listed differently other than differnet markets requiring different price structures. They are the same part other than the gear so buy the cheap one.
On a side note, the listing numbers on Z1, Courtesy Parts and CZP are not actual part numbers, but rather part codes which is a group of part variations listed under one lot. These part codes are further broken down into year model, model type, supersessions and finally part numbers.
na and TT gears have a different offset. im 100%. hence why you need the NA speedo sensor and the NA gear in a TT box with a na diff... im sure i posted a pic of it ages ago . search my user name and leader gears or speedo sensors. if u have a NA diff u need the na speedo sensor and gear in your TT box. not just the gear it wont read properly
I had the TT one in my car (another thing Rolin / Japparts stuffed up) only thing it read wrong was the speedo was out a bit, but as Eric said I'm pretty sure if the Cog is changed it would have fixed that perfectly. Was told that anyways. Would make sense though. Wrote an email asking Z1 to confirm this also.
They are not the same, TT sensor is offset differently than a NA sensor to make up for the height difference of the gear NA vs. TT If you put a TT gear on a NA sensor it will eventually grind all the teeth off the gear and you speedo will quit working. You may be able to get away with a NA gear on a TT sensor because of the offset the NA gear will be tighter to the shaft in the trans. If look closely at the pictures you can see the offset difference, Check where the roll pin goes thru the sensor body.. They are exaclty 180* different, You can turn the NA sensor 180* in the gear box and use a TT gear on it, I did this in my car and just fabbed a bracket up to hold it in the gear box. Notice how the TT sensor gear/shaft is higher up from center on the sensor body? TT sensor NA sensor
Good luck Stu, after reading this thread it is abundantly clear that there is a great deal of conflicting advice(all backed up by proof, and all coming from creditable people). I'm stuffed if I'm any the wiser for having bothered to read it all.
If you have a NA rear diff you probably can get away with a NA gear on a TT sensor, It will just fit tighter to the gear in the trans because of the offset difference, The NA gear it self is taller so it probably wont be an issue. If you put a TT gear on a NA sensor the gear will not reach the gear inside the trans properly and will sheer the teeth off the pinion gear within a few miles. Trust me, I did it You can turn the NA sensor with TT gear 180* in the trans and it will work, Just have to fab up a bracket to hold the sensor in since the bolt hole in the sensor will be 180* from the hole in the trans to bolt it into.
On a side note Coz got back to me and said they are interchangeable so you will be fine I'm sure mate, he knows his stuff. I'm not sure if anyone (bar above) has tried the NA to TT change (cause no one does that anyways with the rear end as far as I knew) so the info was all on regarding changing the TT Gear to the NA one on a TT Speedo sensor. Will be fine trust me.
JT has done the conversion & has the same opinion as spddracer. Nissan has different part numbers for the non turbo & turbo sensors, so they must be different.
Yep, they ARE different. As WaZtted and spddracer have pointed out the NA and TT sensors have different offsets. You are meant to have the TT gear on the TT sensor and NA gear on the NA sensor.
As Eric said above and Coz @ Concept Z TT speed sensor assembly is 32743-30P18. NA speed sensor assembly is 32743-30P20. Only difference is the number of teeth and this is 18 and 20.
you can use a na gear on a TT sensor. but it will strip out eventually, plus a new speedo sensor and gear is under 130 bucks my na sensor and na gear read correct within 1kph with leaders
