This got delivered today. I bought it off ebay for $1500 and had a truck pick it up and deliver it to me.

Its in better condition than I was expecting, 91 build aus spec. NA auto, s2 PTU, R134, manual aircon and cruise. Engine runs fine but the gearbox is shaky. Only thing wrong with the bodywork is rust in the hatch.

Give me something to play with while Im sorting out whats happening with the widebody zed,

The plan at this point is rip the driveline out, put in an LS motor and my dogbox in it, drop it but leave it on stockers and have the super sleeper.

Its a PPG with helical cut gears so its not a noisey/ whiney box. Ive watched some vids and the engagement doesnt look that bad, Just will take a bit of getting used to.

Cant be any worse than the lightweight flywheel and puck clutch I had with the old setup. That was horrible to drive on the street. :p

Did a bit of tinkering through the week

Firstly I threw a splash of paint on the hatch,

Then one of my fiberglass infill panels was fitted. Still needs paint. I also took all the paint of the tail lights of the gold car and fitted the faux 2k lights.

Today I did a bit of shopping and came home with and LS1, Tien coilovers, and a 3 inch exhaust.

I have a few fun weeks ahead :D

    Update

Since the widebody car already has its engine out im using it as a test mule for fitting the engine. Once I have all the mounts made and Im happy with how it sits, Ill pull the engine out of the white one and put this in.

Still waiting on the adapter plate to arrive from OS. Manufatcurer was kind enough to send me the dimensions so I could at least make a wooden mock up so I can get started on the mounts. While it was ahead of schedule I found a guy who could take VATS(security) off and put a MAFless tune into the ecu for cheap. :D

I got a cheepo sump of ebay knowing that It would need some hacking, and a set of HSV headers which will need re shaping to fit as well.

Engine is in the bay but not on mounts yet. Still hitting on the firewall and the steering rack. How LOJ got it to fit baffles me but I have a feeling the custom sump has a fair bit to do with it.

Next step is to try and get the engine a little further back which will enable me to lift it off the steering rack without hitting the bonnet. My thoughts ATM are get the gearbox bellhousing machined down the width of the adapter (16mm). This should allow me to bring the engine back a bit and also will help lining the flywheel with the starter as the spacer takes them out of alignment.

Transmission tunnel however is going to need some "massaging" to stop it hitting there :p

Good progress steps so far. The HSV extractors are a thrifty way to bin those cast pieces of junk.

16mm off of the front of the box going to have any detrimental effects? Bolt holes still plenty long?

Looking good Al! Keen to see the progress as you go :D where did you get the adapter from? You retaining aircon?

Not uncommon. Same method is used with thr mazworx adapters.

I think so. The major bolt holes are 40mm deep so even with the 16mm shaved there is still a fair bit of meat.

Adapter is from Collins adapters http://collinsadapters.com/

Yes keeping Aircon. Im going to use all the bolt ons from the LS. So ill use its alternator, power steering pump, and aircon. Even though they are on different sides of the engine compared to the VG, the re plumbing doesnt look too bad.

PS. No way is the clutch master fitting where it is. Will have to do something under dash with a remote resevoir. :p

    Update.

Progress is coming along nicely. Adapter plate arrived and gearbox attached to the engine. Flywheel is getting fabricated and should be ready by the end of the month, Engine now sits on its own mounts after some revision, and I have a handfull of mandrell bends on the way so I can fab up the drivers side extractor. Wont be long before its time to pull the engine out of the white car and fit the v8 in :D

    Mounts

I had to revise the bottom of the mount as it was hitting on the extractors,

Bonnet Clearance, It just hits the bonnet bracing, Ill have to take a nick out of it to clear the throttle body properely.
